How do I adjust the throttle cable?

Featured Replies

Hi there. I've just had to fit a new accelerator cable (the old one was frayed and kept sticking). I've managed to fit it OK but the acceleration isn't what it should be; how do I adjust the cable or the round bit it attaches to on top of the engine (I bet you can tell I'm a proper mechanic me,lol)?

there is a small metal spring clip that will slot into the grooves on the end of the cable, set it in a position so there is a small amount of slack, then push in the clip in the appropriate grove

As Tom says. Take note that there must be some slack to give good running and no over-run stalling on a cold engine, but should be as little as possible to give good pickup, and the right full open setting.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go after work. Can't wait, I've taxed my car today, it's been 'SORN'ed for a couple of months 'cos I've been so skint.:D

:thumbup:I must have lost the clip but a couple of cable ties seem to have done the trip temporarily!

you should be able to get a clip from a breakers yard, but they are difficult to get out, you'll need a screwdriver to prize it out

From what I can tell the clip is just a 6mm E clip? So if you have a toolstation near you, one from this pack should do the job Information...
