Adding amp and sub

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Currently got std Octy vRS setup but I have a boxed 12" sub and amp that Ive had since my last car (2 years ago) and never got round to fitting in the Octy.. However its now time for some bass.

Unfortunately the amp only has RCA inputs usable - are there RCA outputs on the Symphony headunit I could use to link to it? Just saves me taking the unit out unnccesarily to look.

Paul..

There are non on the back of mine I took it out on sunday.. you could use a high to low level convertor which take an input from a speaker wire and converts to RCA. You will need some power + not as good as RCA from a head unit Hope this helps...

There are no RCA outputs on the Symphony unit, but the unit does have the necessary pre-amp outputs and amplifier control signal on the connector.

Check out:

http://cars.packetradio.co.uk/octavia/radio.htm

for information on how to wire up an external amp to the Symphony unit. The information is two thirds of the way down the page.

Hope this helps,

Bagpuss.

so, did the designer of the Symphony unit NOT want anyone to ever try and run any "accessories" off it...? I'm a bit miffed my Kenwood only came with one set of pre-outs, when I could really do with two at the moment!

Thanks Bagpuss...

Had a quick read and it seems nice and straightforward really - just a case of adding the extra connector and the spare (middle) connector. Will give my dealer a buzz and see if he can order those parts for me.. Do you know if the front and rear preouts are connected to the front/rear fader or have they just called them "front" and "rear" to differentiate them?

Paul..
