Quick question....

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm new to the whole skoda ownership & Briskoda experience and had a quick question. I have just purchased my 07 plate octavia mk2 vrs (petrol) and I am well chuffed. Anyway, quick question.... whilst the engine is at idle i can hear a quite noticeable clicking/tappety sound. I would describe it as a very quite diesel engine clatter sound almost. No other noises throughout the rev range and drives perfect. Is this normal?

is this on a hot or cold engine?

fully warmed....

fully warmed....

Its either the injectors or the timing chain :)

AFAIK the TFSI is quite 'diesely' on tickover; it is a function of the direct fuel injection (FSI).

Perhaps some petrol vRS owners can confirm this.

PS> WELCOME to Briskoda. Enjoy. :D

Thanks I shall visit the dealers asap. I can only hope that this is merely a blip in what should be a happy relationship.

yes that noise is normal on all TFSI

High compression for a petrol engine = bit of a clatter like a diesel.

i'll hold of on that visit

Let the paranoia begin!

yeah, it is a bit like that, i live well out in the country so when it's really quiet, you do notice it more... But tis normal... well at least I hope it is...

I quite agree, but it does go away when you turn the engine off :)

thanks for all your responses. I will now try to fight the paranoia. Just got rid of a saab 93 sportwagon that was an absolute dog. I woul dsay that the experience left me paranoid

If it sounds like a sewing machine, it's normal.

it can't be any worse than a Ford CVH, and they seem to keep going.:)
