66mpg  !!!

me and the mrs go up to scotland usually at least once a year, that would certainly be useful !

Mine tends to average around 65mpg on most journeys and I'm quite happy at that :)

Im averaging 55mpg on a normal everyday drive and 60+ on a long run/motorway

excellent economy and Iv predicted to fill it up every 2 weeks rather than every week like my previous car

On my daily commute (45 miles each way, 95% motorway) I get c. 65mpg averaging at about 65 - 70mph when I'm not paying any attention to fuel consumption.

If I'm on a (literal) economy drive, I can get high 70ies, just scraping into the 80ies by slipstreaming trucks and swapping 5th and 6th gears to keep rpms just about 2k without letting the engine struggle.

These are trip computer figures; don't know how they relate to the real world.

Average 48mpg on computer around start stop milton keynes.

by comparison i do similar trips in passat 20vt with a computer avaerage 28mpg. same speeds same acceleration stc

Big difference!!

Long-term average (over last 3500 miles, as accessed by pressing the trip computer reset button and making the little '1' change to a '2') is 39.8mpg.

Just my luck to have one of those notoriously thirsty vRSes. :D

Up and down Alps, brisk Autobahn driving , 3800+ miles, 42 mpg measured by the famous briskoda brim-to-brim method.

45-ish mpg if not particularly bothered about consumption

Have seen 64.8 though, driving like a granny

Both brim to brim figures

I used to get between 40-45mpg around town.. about 410-430miles to a tank.

Calculated using the brim-to-brim method, over the last 3 months & 4149.1 miles, my car has averaged 53.37 miles per gallon, an average cost of £0.113 per mile in fuel... This is driving normally, with occasional "wide open throttle" to overtake slow moving traffic. Needless to say I'm very impressed.

It is worth bearing in mind that those miles are done as follows:

Probably 60% 30 mile + journeys across twisty a-road and b-road countryside

40% a 3 mile commute to and from work (6 miles in total) on steep uphill/downhill countryside - bringing my average MPG down as the engine does not get up to working temperature.

I'm afraid if you're looking for town economy figures I don't really have any :D

Mine averaged 40mpg over 9 months of varied driving :(

Click on the fuel pump at the bottom of my signature.

Mid to high 40's if you drive normally.

Can't get it below 30 even on a b road blast :D

The guys on here who get 60-70 mpg must drive like my dad :snail:

Mine's doing 50 dead pretty much. Shows that no matter how hard you tune them they still do diesel economy.

Is this figure calculated brim to brim?

I get mid forties mpg day in day out.

A 400 mile round trip with the cruise control set on 65mph returned 53mpg.

65mpg on most journeys is amazing.

I don't think you have. It's more likely that those claiming 50+ for 'normal day to day driving' are living in cloud cuckoo land. It's a bit like a 'mines bigger than yours' thing I think.

More like it. A bit of reality.

I managed around 45mpg booting it around town on short journey's.. I'm pretty sure that on my current commute (70miles on motorway) I would easily achieve much high figure.

I'm speaking from experience when I say that when I 'booted around town on short journeys' (vRS SE) I got nowhere near 45mpg. More like mid-30s. I'm not saying that they can't be driven economically, just that the claims of 50 and 60mpg for 'normal driving' (which to me means a mixture of long/short and fast/slow trips) sound like manufacturers advertising blurb. If someones 'normal' driving is a 30 mile motorway commute at 70mph then yes, 60mpg is believable, but not in mixed driving.

I'm not calling anyone a liar here but...........

You need to look for a better job, mate.

i have done well over 600 miles on a tank (645 is my best) , so if using the nipple method to fill the tank after 600 miles lets say i get about 11.5 gallons in (52.28 ltrs) thats over 52 mpg

What a load of crap.

I can 100% guarantee that with normal day to day driving in Herefordshire & Worcestershire countryside (I spend very little time in traffic) I manage to get the quoted MPG. My parents, who drive in an "economical" fashion, get around 56 or 57mpg from the later BLT engine.

I think the fuel economy of any car depends very largely on the environment in which the car is driven. Perhaps those of us who are managing 50mpg + are driving in environments/conditions that suit the diesel engined car better?

To be honest if anyone on here is mentally challenged enough to make up economy figures, I'm very worried for them :D
