Question about Bluetooth Kit installation

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have just had the factory Bluetooth kit fitted by Lummox and supplied by Stu - many thanks guys for the fast and efficient service.

Almost everything is working having set up using VRStu's very useful & informative octavia-vrs.com website, plus Lummox made some alterations to the wiring to simplify things and speed up installation time.

The phone connects, system beeps and phone book gets pulled across ok. Problem is - it doesn't pull across the "recent calls", "accepted calls" and "missed calls" data. Having made and accepted calls through the Maxidot - these are not recorded either which is weird.

I'm using a SE K850i - which i was led to believe was "fully compatible" - so trying to work out if it's a phone issue or Bluetooth kit issue.

I can make calls and accept calls no problem - the quality is excellent and no complaints from the folks on the other end of the phone either. Just this one niggle on recent call data which would make the system much easier to use etc.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Probably the software in your phone.

The phone list was created using a particular phone with a version of software installed, if your phone is older than the one used to build the list then it may have older software which is not fully compatible. You maybe able to upgrade the firmware on your phone to a newer version through a sony service centre.

I would be more inclined to think it was the phone. Have you given it a reasonable period of time to transfer the previous calls? I get that with mine until the list has been transferred and sometimes it does take a while. IIRC the SE has some setting when you add a BT device about allowing it to auto access the SIM.

I spoke to Ross about it and he carried out all of the adaptions so there is nothing wrong with what he has done.

The compatibility list is only made up from other people's experiences and is therefore not gospel and is only a guide.

Apologies to Stu and Ross on the term "problem with installation" originally used on my thread - come on it's Monday morning - give me a break! ;-)

Anyway - I know the thing is installed ok - just throwing it out there for anyone else who may have seen this sort of issue and narrowed it down to either phone firmware, car firmware, Bluetooth module firmware or batch numbers, etc..... leaving no stone unturned so to speak.

I hope that's clear enough chaps. Once again - as per the original post - i'm well happy with the supply by Stu and fit by Ross. Just trying to enable some of the features which seem to be missing on my setup...."last calls", "accepted calls" etc.

What more can i say?!?!

Spelling of spelling! ;-)

Can you get hold of another phone and give that a try?

Working on that one as we speak Stu. My mate has the same phone but only got it last month( ie 11 months more recent than mine) - might eliminate or confirm firmware issue, then i'll try the girlfriends (but that's SE too). Hmmm....

I have the same problem with my K850i. Although with my K750i it is fully compatible.

I have my contacts on the phone in both cases so I have just created one on the SIM of my K850i. I will try at lunch.

Probably the software in your phone.

The phone list was created using a particular phone with a version of software installed, if your phone is older than the one used to build the list then it may have older software which is not fully compatible. You maybe able to upgrade the firmware on your phone to a newer version through a sony service centre.

Or even direct from the handset (need 3G service and an unlimited data plan) or you could do it via a windows PC & the internet if you have the Sony Ericsson USB lead.

Thanks Hedge - any info would be helpful. My girlfriend has a K700 which i intend to trial tonight with the Skoda Bluetooth. Else i'll be on the SE website looking at K850i firmware downloads (no update menu on the phone unfortunately) as recommended by Mannyo and Mike.

i have a k850i and one of these bluetooth kits and all seems to be fine here, i will check again later, but to my knowledge it shows all calls (missed/made etc). maybe you need to give it a day or two and see how it is as iirc when i first got my k850 and my k800 it didnt get all the call info over striaght away but did the phone book and bluetooth is rather slow at transfering stuff imho.

Thanks smstext,

VRStu had suggested this - and i have tried leaving it for longer periods, it as connected for the full 3 hour drive back from Lummox's place. But given that the full phonebook etc was present and accessible - i figured it should be there. Will try another K850 which i now know has later firmware for sure. Will also try another phone and see if the behaviour persists on improves.

Can you confirm ur firmware version at all - that would help?

Thanks.

I've had the same issue with the K850i and the W910i on two different cars. It was fine with the w800i, so I think it can be said with some certainty it is the phone at issue, not the car kit. You get the phone book, but the missed/accepted/last calls lists remain blank.

I never did try a phone upgrade so can't confirm whether that would solve the issue.

Hope this helps,

Martin

I tried a number on the SIM just now and it failed.

I will try a firmware update when I get home as I have had the phone for nearly a year but last time it said no update required.

Hi All - just to keep you updated on this. Tried this with SWMBO's SE K700i last night - no issues whatsoever, worked fine albeit much slower than the K850 address book sync?!?. So issue is definitely the K850+firmware. Started downloading SE tools for backup and service update - but it took so damned long to download, install and just get a backup of my current phone settings etc - not managed the firmware update as yet. One for this evening - i will advise once complete.

Hopefully some new firmware will resolve your issues then.

Fingers crossed Stu. I must say though - the SE tools for the PC are atrocious. Very clunky installs and phone reboots required, cable disconnects at each juncture and phone modes changed for different sync modes. OMG - life doesn't need to be this difficult!!!! Any suggestions for my next phone chaps.....?

Not a Nokia!!!

I'm on my second HTC now which suits me.

iPhone?

I think i'll hold out for another couple of months - but the Google based G1 looks very smart!!!

I have just firmware updated my K850i and yes it is quite a painfull experience.

I will test at lunchtime and report back if it has solved the problems.

no update available it says on mine, however the firmware version is r1da038 and on o2. i forgot to try this yesterday about the missed call etc, but something is in the very back of my mind that it only shows calls dialed when actually in the car and missed call is calls missed within 24 hours. i might be completley off the ball but i have this idea in my head as im sure when ive left work before now its either had nothing in my missed/last call or it had only been something like the last days worth.

The updated firmware works, well at least it showed the recent calls so I am confident that all other aspects will be ok.

:)That's great

Hi Guys - yep, how painful can it be to update a piece of software? Got there in the end - although it managed to corrupt my SIM card contacts info along the way and then refuse the backup from the PC suite! This is a really poor display from SE IMHO.

New software works fine guys. (Version 1200-4394-R1FA035080527)

Thanks for all the input on this; and once again thanks to Stu and Ross for supply and fit on OEM BT kit.

Ahh good, not all bad news then eh ;)
