WELP! My paintjob is FUBARed!!!

Featured Replies

So...Some stupid turd ( me ) parked his car near a construction site. The stupid part is that there were plastering works being done. With sprayplaster!!!

Now my car is full of small dots of cement!! I tried washing it with pressure washer and hot water + shampoo. After a lot of elbow grease I got car bit cleaner but there's still plenty to rub off. My arm is f'n tired and car is far from clean. Is there some product I can use to remove cement and not screw up paintwork? Or do I only have to rely on elbow grease??!?!?!?!?111oneone

I would put a claim in against the company doing the work if they were negligent enough to allow the plaster to go everywhere and onto your car!

Had the same experience with a different car - cement splattered - small dots everywhere. No way it would come off without damage.

Took it to a professional (3rd world) detailing shop.

The guy used concentrated hydrochloric acid with cotton wool to remove it, followed by a wash and a wax. I was shocked to see him pull out the bottle of acid, asked him if it would "eat the paint", and he said "no problem".

Worked well, and didn't cause any paint damage.

If you decide to try it make sure you wear gloves and eye protection!!

HTH mate

Is it worth trying a clay bar?

get some tardis on it!!! gotta be worth a go

Thing is those tiny dots are stuck on extremely well. If you shift them with anything, it scratches the paint.

It was beyond anything I could figure out to use...

Vinegar is also an acid, but far less concentrated. May work for plaster, I don't know...

tardis works well disolving tar and such alike i thought its got be worth a go, if you worked on dot by dot with a cotton bud,

I tried tar remover. Wasn't much of a help. Vinegar is a good idea, i might try that tomorrow.

To be honest, this accident is no-one's fault. It was quite a windy day and I thought car was well away from the site. Seems that it wasn't...

Claim they should have done suitable work to prevent such damage.

Weather conditions should be part of any construction site risk assessment. I would still look into submitting a claim.

As for actually removing the particles, I would go along with the view that the paint would have to be soaked with a suitable product, so that the cement was effectively dissolved. Otherwise, as Bas says, your paint will be scratched. Obviously, the key is to get something that will do the job, without being so strong and aggressive that it dissolves through your clearcoat and the paint beneath.

I know how bad you must feel mate - I was in exactly the same situation.

Hope you get it sorted as painlessly as I did....

Cheers

Thanks for your support, guys. I'll hit different car supply stores tomorrow, get loads of chemistry and if I get lucky, I'll invent a new bomb :)

Sorry, guys I haven't updated thread. Yesterday was hell...

But I have some news. Thought of going to store today and get ingredients for armageddon. Before that I remembered, that Basil suggested vinegar. So I ran to kitchen, found a small drop of 30% food vinegar from the bottom of the bottle and went to try it out. Guess what? It f'n worked! I got half my car clean in an hour, after that I got a bit dizzy because vinegar fumes have a good kick. But I'm happy I didn't have to supply Osama and his gang with useless leftovers...

Bas - You're a Genius!

So your car now smells like a chippy.

Great stuff mate, glad you sorted it painlessly..

So your car now smells like a chippy.

Just a few gallons of veg oil in the tank, and the effect is complete!

:D

Glad you got it sorted.
