Owning two 2.0 diesels (an Octavia and a BMW 320d) I decided one was enough so part exed the beemer for one of these:

I haven't stopped smiling since - either when I look at it or drive it!

Anyone else out there own an ST220?

Petrol I assume?

The derv ones are slow, that's all I know! Oh, and my Dad's got a 2.0 Zetec which is nice to drive lol

top motor pal, had a test drive in one just before i bought the octy (very nearly got the ford instead); enjoy.

Looks like a Mondeo to me

Yep, 3 litre V6 - very smooth and quiet, especially compared with the PD engine in my Octavia!

How do you find the feul consumption?

Its...its...a mondeo

Better than I feared! Getting a steady 32 mpg according to OBC. The engine is so flexible it will cruise in sixth gear at 30 MPH, doing 1100 revs.

I know, I know - but I have to say I prefer the way it drives than the 3 series I had.

Better than I thought then, good for you :)

Hope you have deep pockets for servicing. Fords are damn expensive to maintain via stealers!

I've got access to a local independant garage who's also a customer of mine ;)

really? I'm sure they were only quoting a teeny bit more than a decent local independant for doing the cambelt swap on my Focus

One stealer wanted £250, others nearer £300, no cambelt on the diesels. ;)

ST mondy owners can add £75 the dealers are telling me.

Bargain. Renault want over £500 for a Clio Sport belt change:thumbdwn:

Love the Mondy ST' I keep saying i'm going to buy one at some point.

one of the few fords with any cred for me.

lovely noise very flexible and brilliant seats.

just the tax put me off buying 1

I agree, same with the tax. £440 next year for 12 months and £455 the year after.

Yeah, but I'm hoping the government may reflect on this idiotic stealth tax as we are now firmly in recession (according to Chamber of Commerce) and we are getting ever nearer to a general election! Ever the optimist, that's me!

Seriously, with having my own business and 3 cars between the two of us, a £200 - £250 hike in RFL for the ST220 won't break us - our company pays us about £10K a year for running our cars privately, so costs are covered. It would be nice if the personal car allowance rates would be increased to reflect the increase in fuel costs, but hey ho, that would mean less in government coffers, so unlikely to happen any time soon.

Right, got off my soapbox.....

I drive a diesel ST estate at work, it's not much quicker than a 130BHP TDCi version, but the handling is vastly improved. Fuel economy hangs around 25MPG! For a diesel!

I would definitely consider a Mondeo ST if I wanted a family hatch. The shorter ones must handle even better than the bus. The grip just never seems to run out, very good car.

Crikey I'm getting 33MPG and that's from the 3.0 V6 Petrol! Are you driving it like it's been stolen? :D

Agreed, the handling and grip is just amazing. On a B road that I drive regularly to get home, I can truck along there at "around" 60 MPH - not been able to do that since the last Mondeo I had back in '98. Even the BMWs I had would feel "twitchy" at times, even more so when the weather was wet and/or cold.

Nice car tho i prefer it in silver!
