Recommended oil for vRS TDI CR ?

Featured Replies

Morning,

I was asking my dealer which oil they recommend for my car as want to buy a 1l bottle to top up when needed. [ only 500km on the clock .. ]

They recommend Castrol

Just wondering if anybody recommended a specific reference

Thanks

Vic

I'd stick with what the dealer provide TBH!

VW507.0 I would guess, but check what your handbook says.

If it is VW507.0 oil then you can use halfords own (£40ish for 5L) and either check it regularly at home or keep some in a used 1L bottle in the boot.

Maybe buy 1L now then top it up when it is used.

VAG 507 00 is correct, LongLife III and 5W30 are te other specs.

As long as the oil is according the 507 00 norm, you may use it. It has the LongLife standard and the right additives for your particular filter.

504 00 is not for the RS TDI, only 507 00 onwards (but there is no onward up to now ;) )

504 oil is the current petrol standard.

It so happens that every oil that I have seen that matched VW504 or VW507 also matches the other one.

@Magic62. Off Topic, but...

Have they finished the roadworks on the autobahn around Leverkusen do you know as I'm thinking of taking a dash down there for obvious reasons :)

The 507 00 is the newer oil and is downwards compatible with the 504 00.

But the 504 00 cannot be used with the 507 00.

Sorry, I have to disagree. At the moment every 507.00 oil I've seen is also labelled as 504.00 ! So they are one and the same oil (as CM just said)

507.00 is the most recent diesel standard, and 504.00 is the most recent petrol standard. So a 504.00/507.00 oil suits either type of modern VAG engine. Note that 507 is not a "newer" spec to 504, it doesn't replace or supercedede 504, it is just a different spec.

To sum up: If you have a diesel, use 507.00, if you have a petrol use 504.00

The only exception I'm aware of is for early r5 (5 cyl 2.5 TDI) engines, which VW say should use 506.01 (but some people believe 507 is better for them too).

Nope for dervs you get:

VW507-> VW506.1

The VW 504 is a petrol standard for oil.

Q. Which is the replacement for the SLX Longlife II oil?

A. This is the EDGE 5W-30 – the Longlife II oil was a 0W-30 viscosity to 503 00 / 506 00 / 506 01 specification – you’ll notice that as well as the new viscosity the specification on the EDGE 5W-30 is VW 504 00 / 507 00 – this is the latest VW specification for the VW Longlife oil.

Sorry, got it mixed up a bit :o

Dont use LongLife II if you need LongLife III.

Went to halfords yesterday for a new bulb and bought 2 of the 90% brighter ones £23.00 each ouch, but while there I noticed they had 5 30 oil in 2 types one was long life at £40 and the other was at £23 for petrol both to 501 spec so whats the difference?????????

Thanks for all the replies.

Finally got my hand on a bottle of Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30

Looks like it easier to buy a sausage roll than oil in Irish stations ...

This is perfect
