Hiiii guys what`s up?, i am thinking of changing the spark plugs of my car(felicia 1.6 MPI) and really want good choise to give me the best performance, i am confused about 4 kinds splitfire triple platinum, denso iridium, bosch platinum +4 and NGK platinum any one could help me with those or give me the best spark plug to fit my car .

changing the spark plug won't increase the performance, but fitting the wrong ones with make the performance worse..

aside from that, i would choose NGK every time

My understanding from reading on the net is when spark plugs spark, each time they lose a small amount of metal somehow, therefore the gap increases. In multi-electrode plugs, the sparks follow the shortest gap so only produce one spark no matter what. As one electrode is used, it is worn down, and then in turn when the gap is big enough, the next shortest gap is used. So the main advantage is longer service life.

I installed some Brisk extra 3 electrode spark plugs and there was a noticeable improvement, but that could have something to do with the gap in the old plugs being well over 1mm.

the standard oe plugs are multi-electrode anyway

I fitted Bosch ones bought from a dealer. back at the 80k mark

I think they only need changing every 40k miles anyway on the 1.6 engine.

i use and recommend BOSH spark plugs, and this is the good part, the cheaper the better, why, cus you have to replace your spark plugs not only because of the electrode but alsow because of deposit, my car run and levas very little deposit on the plug, the only thing i do recommend is to buy a cold plug, it helps with missfire single point, not those fancy dual triple or quad points, and this is a good trick to fit your new spark plug, first make a mark where the spark is more expose and put the spark plug on aling that mark to the intake manifold, this is going to make the spark burn mora gas, hence, more eficiency, seccond, calibrate all gaps to be the same, depending on the coil choice (high volts etc..) you can increase the size of the gap a little and get a bigger spark that burns more gas, if you feel misfires, reduce de gap a little on all sparkplugs, and you'll notice a more powerfull smoother ride

yes, it does. they transfer the electricity to the spark, better cables less missfire more volts.

the standart set of wires can be damage by moving or twisting, good cables are more tolerant and also provide less resistance for the electricity guiving you a more secure robust spark, hence, more fuel mix is burn and the spark is always there.

This guives you better performance, also, get a BOSH coil, let your mecanic know or google "the good, the bad, and the ugly BOSH coil" you'll find a better coils guives more power to the spark

don't bother with high performance HT leads, waste of money.. the oe leads are high grade ones already.. the only potenial place you might gain from fitting 'fast' ht leads is that they are better shielded which means the other electrical components in the engine bay wont get so much interference from the high tension(spark), but that isn't a problem anyway on most cars...

bottom line is, they aren't going to increase your performance one single bit, but they will be more durable than the oe ones.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's recommended to change the HT leads every so often (not sure of period) whether the lead is damaged or not? Guess that's probably one of the things spread by the people who make the leads though :D

depends on what they are made of, if they are silicon then don't change them unless you are bust

I saw my mechanic taping one of the leads on a Rover. Think it was a 416 Hatch

i recomend using a little tightrap on them not too tight so they dont move and to handle them with care, that way they wont get damage by handling or bending, as far as the wires themself i agree with teflontom, better wires (the way i explained) are wires that have no fault if you compair a new wire to another one, there is no gain in performance, again, if you want to do something, check the coil, maybe you can tweak a little there, and the spark plug gap as well as ignition timing, apart from that there isnt muuch you can do (trust me im the kind of guy that looks and tryes out things like that, and have)

it is worth trying to find a more powerful coil, the problem is, on the felicia the coil is a sealed unit with the amplifier and heatsink built in so you can't take them apart, it might be possible to use an ignition amplifier from an older can like a mk2 golf, then use a conventional single ended coil

I put Denso Iridium plugs in my Favorit just out of sheer curiosity. Well, it runs fine (but then it did before), they've been in there for 20,000 miles and no problems at all, but then at £35 a set they still didn't pay for themselves. Fuel consumption doesn't seem any different. I'll put bog-ordinary ones in next time!

the benefit of ordinary plugs to me are; 1· The cost very little, 2·By chagin the spark plug more often you can check the plug itself for a lot of info that will save you a bunch of money (mixture ratio, missfire, ignition time, busted seals, valve problems, etc..) before they star giving you a hastle.

Once you get the performance plug thig out of your head, you'll notice whats good and what is hipe.

I've not owned a petrol Skoda (yet!) but always found on my other cars in the past a particular brand suited a particular engine.

My old 205 with the XY8 Engine loved NGKs, as did my Talbot samba. My Peugeot 309 with the ancient Simca type engine ran on Bosch plugs best. Scimitar runs well on NGKs and Densos

Unless you've got a highly tuned engine, stick with standard equipment plugs and good quality HT leads. I certainly wouldn't use Halfords own brand silicone leads as I've found they break easily, especially on the V6 in my scimitar.

NGK and BOSH are good standart plugs i have used both i prefer BOSH though but thats just a personal issue, but there is no diference in then unless one was hot and the other cold (at least to my knowledge)

I just changed the spark plug on my Feli 00' to NGK, i did not notice anything diferent on the plugs but i kept the old ones and checke online for pics to read the spark plugs,

i was runing the car rich, spark timming was ok, no deposits but i did notice a weak spark sign, so that clears out the wet idle problem i've been having, it seems i need to change the coil
