Unlocks & windows down all on its own...

Featured Replies

Hi All

First post here. Have spent a couple of hours searching but not seen this one elsewhere.

Fabia Comfort 2001 1.9TDI. Has taken to unlocking itself and winding down both electric windows all on its own. Not good in today's monsoons with a car which has to live on the street. This is behaving exactly like the convenience feature but randomly without pressing either button on the key.

When unlocking the central locking from the key button, all is fine until I open the door - then both electric windows wind down.

Pulled the fuses on tailgate lock, central locking and both windows to stop the car being looted. Suspected rogue signals from key, so pulled the battery from the key and tried the spare. Put fuses back in for central locking and drivers side window. Left the car locked for an hour, checking it every five minutes. Stayed locked (and red LED on drivers door flashing). Opened central locking from the key button but when I opened the door, the window wound down. Closed window on the button and pulled the fuse.

Is the convenience ECU stuffed? Could someone with vagcom shed any light? What can I do next? Thanks in advance.

My dad had a company Vectra that did this, along with the alarm and hazards etc etc, usually at 3 in the morning. Ended up having a whole new ECU if i remember correctly.

First check that it isn't just the door locking mechanism sticking. A good washout with cleaner or WD40. It's also possible that the electrical socket into the door lock has come loose and gives intermittent connections so the lock thinks that the key is inserted. You'll have to take off the trim to get at it and loosen some bolts on the carrier panel (no need to remove).

I had a mint Toledo previously. During the winter my Fob lost its signal and i was using the normal door lock to get in and out. One ice cold morning i was in a rush and was a bit hard on the lock. As a result i damaged the mechanism. I no this because @ 2am that night i got a phone call to say that my car was Full of leaves!!!!!! Luckily it was the first dry nite in weeks!! ANYWAY the car used to unlock and the 4 windoes go down wenever it felt like it..

Cost €120 door lock mechanism.

word of advice : in winter , put Vaselene in your locks !!!! LOL

:-)

Had this problem after a crash repair, car went back to repairer wiring problem between drivers side door & bodywork.

hi mate, just had the same, went to the skoda garage next door, right hand door ecu and harness change, cost best part of a grand, and also informed that the left hand door is on the way out, the ecu in the door (drivers side ) has the brain for the locking, windows and for the mirrors. fixed it though, the problem was corrosion on the terminals.
