Further to my previous post, has anyone got any suggestions re security on my octavia vrs.

skoda have offered the cat 2>cat 1 + alarm upgrade for

i am also thining of this if possible on 2001 model, bought a disclock but the size of the bloody thing made me take it back, far too cumbersome for me mrs, trying to fit that and sort out 2 kids in/out of the car.

any info welcome.

edit to add cat 1 should be a good system,or it wouldn't be cat 1 ;)

1 word.... Sigma.

They own toad and have been in the alarm business for years, you can get details of their systems from the toad or Sigma websites.

I wanted a cat 1 system that offered the use of the current OE keyfob so had a chat with a dealer of the systems, he recommended the M32 cat 1 system and IIRC it cost less than the Skoda option but offered more.

You can lock/unlock the car with (as i said) the Skoda keyfob, the system has interior sensors and a key pad that you can hid away for adding extra options in the future, the system already supports an anti hijack feature and a total lock down for when you go on holiday where as the car can be locked and immobilised while your away and not even the keyfob will unlock the car, you have to use the key to open the doors which then sets the alarm off until you punch a code into the pad.

I was going to go for a Toad system but the dealer told me they had experienced problems with Toad on the Octavia due to something with the interior light and the alarm setting itself, cant remember the exact details.

Anyway, West mids and staffs Police have had the Sigma M32 fitted to all their Octavia police cars and Subaru use the M32 as standard on the new Impreza.

Cant be bad in my book, i've also had the system fitted and running since the end of January, fitting was done at my work and was included in the cost of the system, the installation is seamless and tidy and the system is working perfectly.

One thing the dealer said that kind of influenced my decision was that they fit this system to alot of cars with keyfob controlled central locking anf they recommend the system because it never / very rarely fails or plays up, afterall (he said) we fit these to cars all over the country, the last we want to do is send one of the guys out to a car thats having problems in the middle of Wales in the middle of the night !

Sorted.

Am I being paranoid getting a Trackstar fitted to my vRS, then? Only nobody pays any attention to car alarms any more... :thumbdwn:

nothing is a waste of time if you feel it nessasary. i havent gone to that measure on mine but i did want a cat1 system with bells just for peace of mind.
