odd noise when starting up

Featured Replies

Sometimes when i'm firing up the engine there's this low whirring noise for a bit before it goes away after a few seconds

Dunno what that is. I'm guessing it could be the PAS but not too sure.

starter motor??

its after I release the key.

So you get the starter noise

Engine fires, release key

and you can her a low whirring sound for a few seconds

Could it be engine sound while the idle speed settles?

I had this - I think the starter motor gets stuck - I used to touch the throttle on mine and it used to stop!

Thanks guys. i'll be sure to keep a sharper ear to see if it comes back and when.

i have a noise like that, it doent go away by accelerating, but it goes away after the engine has warmed up a bit

I used to have this on my old Polo.

It was the starter motor that sticks a bit.

I think it can be repaired without having to replace the motor.
