Exhaust gases light -petrol vrs

Featured Replies

Bad day. Brake feel and now "Control system for exhaust gases" light has lit up (petrol vrs). Just back from a 500mile round trip over the weekend, didnt miss a beat (although MPG seemed down). Went out to pop for a chinese, and it lit up. What sort of thing could it be? All I can think of in the exhaust system is the lambda sensor.

I have hed this previously for an intake manifold runner problem.

You have 2 or 3 choices:-

1) Go to a dealer

2) Ring Skoda Assist if you are still under warranty

3) Find someone local with VCDS (VAG-COM)

Hope that helps.

Could be anything from a faulty maf to a fuel temp sensor or lamda probe, the only way to find out is to get a fault code scan as per the previous post.

Makes a change to hearing about DPF problems.

Seriously, could be any number of things; on the Fabia the 'Engine management light' (icon shaped like an engine) covers faults ranging from lambda sensor, to power steering sensor to water temperature sensor.

Get it on a diagnostic ASAP; as per Hedge's recommendation.

Got up this morning and the light had gone out. Took it to the dealers, they checked the car and found one fault. They didnt say what it was but that it was nothing to be concerned about and nothing was wrong "just one of those things". I'd of probed further but was feeling really rough and wanted to get home. So  its ok, just intriging as to why it flashed up in the first place.

Got up this morning and the light had gone out.

The first time it happened to me the light went out after a few turns of the ignition key. I would be quite curious as to what the actual problem was.

Probably manifold runner and they've carried out a Basic Settings Adjustment.

Is this something that often needs tweaking?

The car seems to have a bit more pep to it since. Although it could be in my head!

That would sound about right then.

It's cause by a failing potentiometer/stepper motor which is in place to move the manifold runner flaps. If this momentarily 'loses sight' of its position it reports the fault.
