Service & Timing Belt Cost Octavia II 1.9tdi

Featured Replies

Hi Guys.

My Octavia II 1.9tdi Elegance is nearly 4 years old and due it's annual service and timing belt changing. The car is on a fixed service schedule and due at 25,000 (currently has 24,267 on the clock). I've just telephoned two main dealers (both in West Yorkshire - Where I have had the car serviced before) and been quoted £183.95 and £235.00 for the service (as it's a main one) and £309.00 (both quoted the same price) for the timing belt. After I picked myself up off the floor I decided to find out what everyone else thinks to these costs? Alternatively I could get the service done now and the timing belt changed in January when the MOT is due? However am I pushing it on the timing belt? (I've read up on the various threads). Finally I've always had the car serviced at a main dealer to keep up with the full service history thing! Is this worth the extra cost in the long run (for the alledged value it adds) when I come to trade in or should I look for an independent? Any thoughts, comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

£309 does seem a little pricey but then it depends on how difficult it is to get at. On the superb v6 it was going to be even more like £500.

On my first petrol octy my water pump went and an independent ford garage fixed that and swapped the belt over while they were there for £200.

You could always ask them how long they are going to take to do the work. Surely some of the site sponsors could give you a decent price

Price for the belt doesnt seem to bad to me, quiet a lot of the car needs to be dismantled to get the belt, and then put back together again afterwards.

I will be paying £290 this afternoon when I pick mine up, belt tension-er and a proper water pump fitted

From a Seat they have the same engines:thumbup:

Dam forgot about the coolant and the VAT £355 all in, and found out its my DMF thats on the way out, but as its only occasionally rattling I will leave it until I can get to a steel-er as it was changed at 44k and I got it at 64k and its now done 73k

Shame your so far away really. I could better that price.

Recently had mine done at DSB Autocare in Bulwell, Nottingham. New timing belt, tensioner, water pump - £301. I'm satisfied! Great service from nice people.

Hi,

Got mine done at Bickertons (Sheffield), they currently running a deal for the cambelt service for £260 which I think is very good.

Regards

Steve
