Side airbags?

Featured Replies

Does the vRS have side airbags as standard?

I've been using seat covers for a while now and just realised thats a bad idea if it's got side airbags... I know a lot of the Mk4 Golfs had them but does the vRS also?

IIRC, they come as standard (apart from a few early ones). Does it say airbag on the side of the front seats?

Most MKI vRS's don't have side airbags.

I've checked the sides of the seats and it doesn't have the little "airbag" sign like on the Golfs.

I'm pretty certain the Mk1 vRS never had side airbags. I know mine doesn't have them.

Edit: I've just double checked the brochure, side airbags were not available on the vRS, only the Elegance and Laurin and Klement. If they did I'm sure they would have to have the airbag logo on the side to tell you.

I have the Mk1 Octavia brochure in pdf format, would you like a copy?

Yeah, mine has side airbags and has the little airbag thing sowed into the side of the seat so if its not there im sure it doesnt have them....;)

Yeah mate a pdf copy of the brochure would be great.

Yesterday I was considering being a real geek and actually buying a 2002-2003 Octavia brochure off of ebay

what actually happens if you've got seat airbags and seat covers?

I saw an insurance report from a neighbour where seat covers were listed as a contributary factory in their injury. The bag deployed but not in the correct location. The Insurance company was trying to reduce the payout.

Do the seat cover manufacturers give a warning about airbags?

You can buy seat covers for seats with airbags, i assume they have a weak seam (just like the seats) so when the airbag is triggered the stitching gives way letting the airbag go off correctly.

Yeah mate a pdf copy of the brochure would be great.
