window tint - Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

I have just ordered my Furby vrs

I have just ordered my Furby vrs – black. Question is…. Do I get all the windows tinted slightly, or just the back lot? I don’t want to totally black them, just want to make it look a bit sexier with a slight tint. I know the law says “don’t do it, or we will slap u” – but… shall i? :thumbdwn:

Found the button then.

Have no idea on the law on tints, aprt from you can't do the windscreen. CJ had rear pimps on his.

yes - cheers for the instruction andy - i am the new post threader :P

I've got limo black out tints on the back of mine - Also had on the fronts when I bought it, but removed them purely from a safety aspect! It was bloody dangerous! At least it stops little 5crotes being able to see whats in the boot when the parcel shelf is out! :D

point 1 - yes, and my buttocks will be in the door panels, so to speak! ;)

point 2 - nah, don't bother - it makes me smile!

PS: This is gonna look so confusing to someone who's not read that other thread!

The thought of one of your buttocks in each door panel beggers the question as to what the view through the windscreen would be.

:nono:

(Moving swiftly back to the topic of the original question before Andy and Jason get even more carried away.)

Yes, I think you should tint them all slightly :) Would look silly IMHO with half tinted and half not.

The thought that his buttocks are large enough to reach either side of the car is far more worrying...

As for tints - go for it. AFAIK (and I'm sure Denis will be along at some point with a link), the current law is no tints on the front windows at all. If you keep it light you'll minimise the chance of being pulled and told to remove them. You can have whatever you like on the back and rear window, however.

Mine are lighter at the front and darker at the back, but nowhere near "limo" darkness like Jason's. Not had any problems yet *touch wood*, and not found any of them to hamper my view, even at night....

I could be wrong but the tinted windows must allow 75% of light through.

That's for fronts only though, John?

I think I heard that only 35% of light should be blocked by tint. I.e 65% of light must be able to pass through. Trouble is so many OEM windows already filter out a %% of light, so there's not much margin to block more out. I believe it should be policy for all window tint fitters to have one of those light filtration checking machines, to make sure what they're fitting is legal.

If you want a laugh check out cliosport - somewhere there's a thread where someone's posted pics of his 95% tints, to which the majority of the others have told him he's a muppet :D

If you look at similar threads you can find one on WINDOW TINTING AMENDMENTS TO REGULATIONS started by DGW on Forum MY STYLING

Hope this is of help

Cheers PJM

I know the regulation :( but... shall i do it? Daddy or chips?

35% on the fronts is legal. We had 35% on the sides of the Scooby and 22% on the rear window. Shame you can't tint the front screen :D

Chris

Just do it,you know you want too  ,i think tints look great and will be my next mod once i have a few quid to spare just dont go too dark because as was said earlier you will attract the attention of the old bill which isnt good and also they could impare your vision which could endanger yourself or others

Hi fowlerwelsh, CJ calling!

As andy said, I have the rear doors windows and tailgate tinted to 18% I think it was called. Think that means it lets 82% of what you would have got light wise in.

Be very very careful tinting the front sides though. Plod do not like it, and the law has been changed I believe.

The guy that did a fab job on mine, reckons you can't tint the 2 front side windows at all.

I do know of a guy that had his Fiat front windows done very dark, and he was stopped and told to remove them. Expensive mistake.

The police in Cambridgeshire are currently taking action against the owners of cars with excessive tinting. A friend of my son was stopped by the police and 'invited' to remove the tinting from his car's windows with a razor blade or be booked. If you do opt for tinting, make sure the tinting meets current regulations and that you inform your insurance company.

Not easy to photograph, but here is a pic of the Scooby with 35% tint which we were told is the darkest allowable tint on the fronts.

Tinting a black car? Let's just say the "Van Effect"...

  • Author

thanks for all you advice - as for saying "van effect" I DO NOT AGREE :finger: (only joking mumphie)

scooby looks good with 18% tint. Anyone know what Gloucestershire old bill are like with this rule re: tinting?

Just read Top Gear Mag, 25% tint is the maximum legal in this country apparently...

Tinting's OK, but you run the risk of turning your car into a drug dealer's if you tint too much. Also, 'cos you can't tint the windscreen, if you make it too obvious you've tinted the other windows, it'll look cack!

I'm still tempted to get a light smoke for the fronts, but won't do unless the tinters can prove their legality BEFORE fitting. ;)

I don't mind being seen as a drug dealer, also tints will hide the beeyaches in the back seats which I'm pimping out at night! :D :pimp:
