mine is an early 2001 and its not the same part, there is a reduction in throw, there is also def a reduction in the 4x4 throw. The parts all look the same as they are vag, and ultimately the weighted part has a similar function whether its on a vrs/tt or a 4x4, the difference is where the pin is located not in the way the overall item looks. Of course the forge/neuspeed items are going to be better, its just they cost 5 times as much.

Btw Garry, you can buy a side reduction kit, but thats seperate, the neuspeed one you found does front to back reduction not side to side.

Pics for you Simon of 4x4.

Maybe, but if the two parts have two sets of identical part numbers stamped on them, then how can they be different?

On my Octy vRS the existing part and the VWSpeed one are identical with the same two sets of numbers stamped on them and the pin being in the same place on both?

Having had the car from new, I know that it is the original one on the car as supplied by Skoda.

Also in post one you quote the part number as 8NO 711 046, but SimonJ shows the TT short shifter as part number 8NO 711 051A...???

:confused:honestly not sure, was going to ask is the pin in exactly the same place, but you just answered that.

I know that the part numbers have changed at some point with audi, just confirm the part number you have? I bought mine from audi direct, i wonder if maybe somehow the vwspeed one is different, just a thought.

Is your car pin circlip or balljoint style fitting?

Right I have rechecked and my original part is 8NO 711 051A

The box the new one came in has 8NO 711 046 but the actual part has 8NO 711 051A on it. So basically I have replaced a perfectly functioning part on my car with an identical albeit shinier part :finger: Thank goodness it was only £20 wasted. Had a look at the neuspeed one from Awesome and may get 1 fitted when I pop up there after christmas for my other toys to be fitted.

Can't be a waste of money then, not if it's adding shinyness to your bay!

I'll be fitting my 6 speed one to my Golf at the weekend.

sorry guys, was just trying to help:rolleyes:

I checked the part number on mine (not the 051 or the 046 part) Before ordering a new one and its def different and an improvement.......only thing i can think is mine was different to what some cars have fitted.

3 ways forward i guess,

1) modify it for real reduced throw like the forge ones (what im going to do anyway)

2) ebay it and sell it to any of the cupra or golf boys who are upgrading to this part or other 4x4 owners as this is still an upgrade for the 4x4s!

3) enjoy the bling.....as Dan said, a nice shiny part always looks good!

I bought loads of parts from an audi dealer and sometimes when I give the skoda part number, my mate sometimes has too swap the last letter to A to get the equivalent part. A for Audi

The TT shifter now comes from Audi with the Bowden cable attachment included (the bit that attaches to the end of the selector cable) and is part number 8NO 711 046, the shifter on its own (which I don't think you can order now) was part number 8NO 711 051A. I used the old number when I ordered mine at the beginning of the year but was told the part number had been superseded and the shifter came with a new Bowden catch.

I ordered 8NO 711 046

I'll see when it arrives if it's any different to my stock one. If not I'll have to sell it to a Mk4 Golf owner :D

Thanks for confirming what I had said, otherwise a trip to Specsavers would have been in order.

No point in changing like for like.

I can also confirm that my 2001 VRS Octy already had P/N 8NO 711 046 fitted as does my mates 2002 VRS. So I wasted £20 to put a slightly shiner one on, although I did adjust the gear linkage throw to make the gear change better.

So it must be that early version VRS's have a different selector??

What's the part number of the different one?

Dammit:

But on the bright side - it's a nice day!

You git!! It's bloody freezing up in Yorkshire!

When I mentioned B&M, I meant one of these: Precision Sport Shifter

Seems a popular part with the mk4 tuners. Obviously you would get the black version, as having robocops schlong in the car would be a bit off putting!

That looks excellant Rob cheers
