Which is best - Spectrum or Commodore 64?

Featured Replies

I thought we may as well resurrect another "which is best" debate , though this one clearly has a definitive answer unlike the X-Box or PS3 question.

C64 had better graphics, but games took hours to load.

Spectrum had worse graphics, but games loaded a lot faster.

LOL!

Acorn electron clearly :D

Ahh back in the days where you could rent game tapes from the local library  (then in my case, my electron had a floppy drive so we would just copy the tape to floppy if that isnt getting into piracy early im not sure what is! )

C64 with a disk drive.. :D

The C64 had everything in its favour except price and physical size. Speccy loses points for colour clashes, tinny sound, that appalling thermal printer and dumb, nonstandard joystick interfaces.

Without C64, there would have been no Amiga. Without the Amiga, there would have been no ALIEN BREED series! My favourite games EVER! :D

I love Alien Breed!

Apparently (according to 360Gamer magazine), Alien Breed is coming back!

TV Burp style fight?

Or lemmings.

or stunt car racer, supercars2 (that enviromental biiiiiyacch! ) etc etc

or super stardust :D

CBM64 with a 1541 floopy drive! I even had a 1520 plotter. What was the cassette deck? 1531? Yum.

And I had a modem - something like 300bps!

Spectrum. No doubt about it.

I was up in the loft at the weekend looking for old school photos to stick on facebook, in the corner there they were! The c16 +4 and the c64, dust had long since covered over the keys and the joysticks were no where to be seen, the power pack for the 64 was fooked a long time ago and i bent the pins on the joystick port for the 16 +4. Those titans of a bygone era sat quietly hoping they may one day live again!

The 64 without a doubt was better than the speccy, all you need to do is look at the graphics on double dragon and then you'll know.

I only have one word WIZBALL

Ah yes, the Amiga. I wanted a 1000 (I remember seeing one in a shop at St Albans and falling in love when I was a kid) but ended up getting a 500 in the end which I eventually traded in for a 1200. Ah the good old days!

I've still got my original A500 (red and green lights) with a 512k trapdoor expansion - £130, that cost! I also have a 1200 with a 20mb internal hard drive and 8Mb memory that came from a TV station where we were using it to run Scala for the out of hours information service :)

I'm pretty sure I have a spare C64 PSU in the loft (and probably some joysticks too) if you are interested.

no. I lent my garfield suitcase full of games to that cnunt over the road and told him i wanted them back, did he give them back, did he. Did he fookers like!!!!!

Now all i have is platoon and i could never get past the sewers on that.

And he had all 120 of my games workshop paints and never returned them! Cost me a fortune to buy all them. Now i have a eldar dreadnought that'll never get painted!

thanks though.

It's taken me until now to remember what made the C64 so much better than the Sugar Spawn - THE LAST NINJA II!!! :D Oh, the number of times I f%^&ed-up jumping onto that drifting boat to get out of Central Park - at least it came back if you went away and came back again! ;)

Alien USA

You had to fly the dropship in.....

COOL

Who mentioned Amstrad?

I had both, and I would say the C64 was the best for me anyway.

All Speccies made after '86 were made by Amstrad! ;)

Are we not talking about early speccys though? 16/48Ks? 128Ks were bobbins

Spectrum for me as i couldn't afford the C64:(

Jet Set Willy (probably the best platform game ever) - i remember writing the code out so i could copy the game.;) Double tape deck anyone.

The only game I can remember on the speccy was 'How to be a complete bastard':cool:

On the C64... Outrun :D
