vrs multi changer probs

Featured Replies

put the standard headunit back in my 52 plate vrs and the multi changer wont play discs it displays mechanic on the screen. any ideas whats up with it?

If you've kept the multichanger in the boot all the time you had the aftermarket headunit then there's probably quite a bit of dust built up in it - try blowing it out with an airline or get a small hoover attachment in there (make sure there are no broken loose parts inside it first!)

Then give it a go with one of those CD cleaner discs.

If that doesn't work then you can buy the changer units on ebay for anything from £50 to £80

check the magazine is ok as well. Copies or original CDs?

Thats what mine displays.

Ive tried,

* Taking the CD Changer out and using a can of compressed air to clean it

* Cleaning the CD Cassette and have also tried my spare cassette and still have the same problem

* Original and Copied CD, doesn't make any difference

* Tried it in another car ( same problem)

* Banging it ( helped for a short period then stopped again)

With CD's in each slot, turn off the HU then Turn it on again and before it tries to play the CD press a different CD Slot and see if it loads another CD. This sometimes works on mine and I can then try going back to the CD that said Magazine and 1 time out of 1 it will work and play the CD.

I think it's a gremlin in there somewhere

I've had similar problems with mine, but not as bad and normally only disk 1 that won't load. Following advice I found somewhere on the internet I cleaned the white plastic tabs that grab the CD, and that seems to have helped. It hadn't got too bad before, though, and I haven't used it much since, so I can't be 100% sure it's fixed but it does seem to be better.

If you take out the magazine and look into the changer, there are a couple of whitish plastic tabs that I think pinch together to grab a disk and pull it out of the magazine. I cleaned the surface of them where they grab the disk using a cotton wool bud & some CD cleaning fluid, and it seems to have been better since. I'd previously tried blowing through it, cleaning lens, etc., etc without any improvement.

Hope that works for you,

Alan
