Maxidot in - esp dead?

Featured Replies

I've just got my maxidot installed by my local skoda pusher and everything seem to be working except the esp. They are still investigating, but they where also talking about driving in a 8 shape to re-activate it. Does that make any sense? I have been driven it but nut in the figure 8 (need to find a suitable place)

ESP FRONT MK60 Kode 23170

01423 005

There must be a fault code logged, without it its difficult to know whats going on.

The figure is 8 thing is if you put the abs/esp into self check mode.

Not quite an Octy, but this is something I had to do with my old A4 when I was messing in vagcom and pressed the wrong buttons during a cruise install

You need to do the steering adaptation atleast, sometimes the lateral and longitudal sensor adaptation is also required. After that it will work ok.

If the dealer does it for you, make sure they select the correct ABS module from VAS. There are two variants, one without ESP and the one with ESP.

I have a print out from the dealer, it is in danish though... what would the code look like?

Translated to english it should read something like Steering assist, no or incorrect basic setting/adaptation.

Do you just have the amber steering wheel icon on the dashpod? No ESP off light?

If so just do the steering limit adaptation and everything should be ok.

It's easy to do by yourself. Start the car, center the steering wheel. Keep it centered for 5 secs. Then turn the steering fully to the left and keep it there for 5 secs, then turn the steering fully to the right and keep it there for 5 secs. Then center the steering and the steering assist light shoud go off.

Esp light should be off before you do this.

If you have both the steering assist light and ESP off light on the dashpod, then your car needs to go under diagnostic equipment. Your dealer has to do the basic setting for steering assist and after that the steering limit adaptation I just described.

Believe it's nothing else but that. I had the same situation myself when my dealer swapped my dashpod for a Maxidot one.

Luckily I have vag-com software and cable so I was able to sort this out myself.

It states something like this:

03-Brake electronics

ESP Front MK60 T12 0102

Code 23170

01423 005

Feeler for latteral acceleration-G200

No or incorrect basic/settings adaption

I only have the ESP OFF light on in my display including the on/off button.

Just tell your dealer to run basic settings to ESP modules. You can print the instructions from the link Stu has in his reply.

They shouldn't charge you from it because it's something that needs to be done when swapping dashpods.

Don't ask me why......

Jees if they struggled with that i'd love to see them change on with MK60 EC

Thanks all, I will try to bring a print out of stu's link. :) I'll let you know.

Just a quick question. If my car is provided with the coding provided from stu's link, should that result in a functional esp? (esp off light off) and thats it? Just trying to get my head around what to "instruct" my local skoda pusher with ;)

Ah coding ESP such such fun!!

It's not a case of coding the ESP but carrying out a basic setting adaption.

They shouldn't need telling as I would suspect they are using VAS Guided Functions. That said they shouldn't have returned the car to you like that in the first place.

I agree but having that said, I do feel guilty as well. Located on the country side in Denmark and I had to push them to install it. I'll get it sorted one way or the other. (Best guess is that they have never tried this before, not even changed a faulty one)

thanks :)
