bad bushes

TT front bushes are larger and won't fit the pressed arms.

Suspension Bushes 2WD - uk-mkivs

Cheers buddy. Excellent thread that!

I'm liking the idea of buying new OEM wishbones, then swapping the rear bushes for TT ones, then swapping the complete wishbones over.

Less off the road time, and less risk of me making a mess of removing the old bushes while under pressure. I like to take my time! I'm guessing the parts will ring in at about £80ish. Plus I'll have some spare wishbones on the shelf, which is only a good thing.

If I swap wishbones over, 5 bolts I believe, will I need to get any sort re-alignment done before I put her on the road? (I'm clueless on this!)

Thanks.

I would think so mate as you will be altering the camber on the wheels iirc

its only bout 40sqid a go iirc well ish

hope this helps mate

I have the superpro and have never had a problem with them. They are a completely different design to the powerflex equivalent and work well

lookin to replace my wishbone bushes and arb bushes all round ,where did you get the super pro's from so i can order a set up

cheers d

cheers bud

did you upgrade all your bushes to super pro ie wishbone, arb's,rear beam etc?

  • 3 weeks later...

how easy are the super pro bushes to fit ?. do you need any special tools or a press to to put them in ?

  • 1 month later...

Boing !!!!

Anyone have any good feedback on the Super pro bushes for me.

I need some sort of good news as I've tried the powerflex ones which were then swapped for their new uprated versions which seemed too eat themselves from the inside out. I then tried the TT solid ones which are now also creaking and making the car feel like it has a flat tyre!!!!

All in all I'm quite fooked off with bush scenario in general, so I may give the superpros a shot other than that its back to the OE jelly ones :(

I want something which will last as the OE are ****e imo. Is this too much to ask

biggest problem is the arm/bush orientation design is $h1te

The idea of forcing the bush to bend in 2 axes with suspension travel is totally cack, but sadly common place these days in the interest of "comfy" ride. Any bush which tries to restrict movement (ie locate the arm properly) will be struggling, or just too soft to be any use.

The only real solution is fit a spherical bearing in place of the bush, the benefit in handling terms is huge, but noise transmission is consequently increased. We have used sherical bearings (Leon cupra cup arms) on our race car, and the difference is huge - a standard configuration arm is horrid by comparison.

So what do I do, OE or give SP's a try. Bearing in mind this will be the fourth set, well fifth if I include the first two complete arms and bushes I changed, it's all getting a little exspensive tbh.

Add too this the fact that they appear too have caused two tyres too eat themselves in 4k its quite franklytaking the **** now

The TT bushes lasted about a fortnight before they let go they aren't moving around like the first powerflex ones but they have just collapsed as far as I can tell.

Are your arms going through some abnormal angles for some reason? Is the car a lot lower than normal? The TT bushes shouldn't wear out unless they are being forced into some unrealistic positions or angles.

Cheers Guys

The setup is standard other than the bushes, no lowering or braces etc.

Like I said I only got the PF bushes as they were supposed too last longer than the OE ones

Anyone ordered off ECS, I'm just wondering how long they will take from the states.

Edit ...These look just like the TT ones Image View

I need some sort of good news as I've tried the powerflex ones which were then swapped for their new uprated versions which seemed too eat themselves from the inside out.

I read a while ago that all poly bushes will do this over time due to the way the polybushes flex on the crush tube causing a gap allowing crud between the tube and bush.

This allegedly wears the bush away from the centre out

You are the first person I have heard report this though.

Anyway in answer to your question I have the superpro's and have had them in for a year this month covering about 10k and so far they are good both in condition and performance. I did a lot of reading before I commited to superpro's and they do generally receive good reports compared to the powerflex equivalents for the MK4 platform.

Yep, the ECS ones look like TT versions.

For the record, I've had PF ones in my Octy for 12 months and they've had hard use including a couple of trackdays - functionally they are fine at the mo..

The OE void bush type don't "wear out" quickly as they are very flexible, so are willing to bend about in all directions - unfortunately thats exactly what we don't want.. :(

To answer your question fatty...

1. The SuperPro bushes DO stay in place.

2. From what I seen, all the poly rear wishbone bushes wear faster than other bushes. Don't know that many guys who have fitted poly rear wishbone bushes but those who have fitted the SuperPros are still going strong (2 over 50k).

Fatty5000, have you got a photo of the TT bush problem? I've spoke to you before regarding powerflex and i'm not at all surprised that the new designed powerflex bush self destructed.

I'm surprised to here about the TT bush problem, mine are going strong and so far outlasted 3 powerflex items. (tempting fate:rolleyes:). When pressing them into the arm I used bearing fit compound and covered the mounting bolt in copper grease.

Hope you get this sorted, I know how annoyed you must be, my sills at the jacking points are worn because of this problem.

I'm having Leon Cupra R Rear bushes fitted as we speak. I'll let you know how they feel when I pick the car up Friday. Came highly recommended on a Golf mk4 forum.

There the rear beam ones though arn't they, were talking rear wishbone ones here.

Oops. Ignore me then.

Oops. Ignore me then.

Saying that it would be good too know what your thoughts are on the Cupra rears for future reference like.:)

Stand down chaps :o

The TT bushes are fine.......Did I look a ****, oh yes I did. The garage that fitted them had a look yesterday and they appear too be normal, my creaking has been put down too the lack of grease on my ARB buhes which I fiitted back in about April, I guess they have contrcted and are complaining slightly. We gave them a shot of lube and they have quietend down a fair bit. The wobbly steering I belive is a side effect of having hardly any tread left on the tyres and the current weather.

I just love it when you ask about squeeks and the tech tells you too turn the radio up instead of addressing the problem  Luckily the young lad there was nice enough too grab the oil can and give the bushes a squirt for me which seems have nailed the problem, just need too do it properly on the weekend now :D

Thanks for the help guys :thumbup:
