So how do you remove that boot net?

Featured Replies

I picked up a chubby fire extinguisher and rack and plan on fitting it there. Problem is, no matter how hard I pull, the darn thing won't let go.

Anybody got any hints? How do you remove the carpet to get behind it?

got any pics as im confused here. boot net is only clipped in.

I think he means the netting in front of the right hand side cubby hole. IIRC there is a thread on here about it.

there is a velcro strap there in the o/s/r cubby space thats where i strapped my fire extinguisher.

Indeed, that's the one. Mine came with the first aid kit strapped to that spot you mentioned, but just below it where that net is would be the perfect place for the fire extinguisher.

I remember about a similar thread too, I just couldn't find it.

Interesting thread. I just picked up a small car-type fire extinguisher from Aldi and thinking of mounting it there... Let us know how you get on.

I've been looking for that thread as well, couldn't find it either :(

I'm going to try a brute force attack on it in a couple more minutes after i finish this coffee.

If that hopefully works then I have to figure out some clever way of holding 1kg of fire extinguisher in place with nothing but velcro and the likes, since the carpet seems glued in place on that side.

Its an integrated part of the boot covering across that side. Indeed if you break the net you need to buy a replacement boot side. You can remove the metal strip by sliding it off the clip at each end, and the net simply unhooks all the way round.

The way I removed mine was to put some heavy shopping in the boot and take a left hand bend to fast. Seriously - Worked a treat :)

Brute force worked on mine, but it broke it. That didn't matter too much as a piece had already fallen off. It's secured with some tabs (3-4) to a plastic piece sitting behind the carpet in the rear light cluster area. This is in term secured to *something* with a nylon screw that on mine was already dislocated.

The way I did it was i just pulled outwards until I lost patience, then smacked it once with the said fire extinguisher and it all flew off. I then fished the hidden plastic piece out through the opening where you can access the rear of the cluster.

The fire extinguisher is in place now, and I'm quite happy with it. The carpet is eavy duty and I used washers about 1 inch wide on the carpet side, 0.7 inch on the other. It's fixed firmly, not a chance it can take off.

Side question: are fire extinguishers required in the UK?

We have the Elegance if that means anything , our extinguisher fits quite well on the ledge of the space and other bits go into the front /bottom ledge. the retainer for want of a better word does not interfere with anything. The elasticated net is very usefull to holding down shopping etc.

Lets just hope you dont have a fire in the boot!

My fire extinguisher fits nicely in the slot at the side of the variable boot floor. Not sure I would want to put it in a locked box!

I've got the official skoda extinguisher and fitting kit under the seat as per my how to thread for it.

They are not required over here, but having driven in europe where they are and have to be in reach of the driver I decided not to chance it.

Great. Here's what it ended up looking. Passed our local MOT equivalent today too.
