"Can't get better than a..." robbin' fitter !!!

Featured Replies

Bloke at work had a similar story. His dad took his car in to a branch of Humphrey's to get some tyres and the story went thus:

 You need knew shocks all round mate, these are knackered and leaking

:o Oh, really? Oh well, I suppose you'd better do it then

::SEVERAL HOURS LATER::

 All fitted mate, that'll be X pounds please!

:o Oh, the shocks you've just said were shot and have therefore just replaced were fitted by this branch about 2 months ago. Here's the receipt. So they're covered under warranty then and I won't be charged, yes??

:( Erm, yeah, I suppose so mate. No charge.

How many peoples dads would be switched on enough to let them do all the work before producing the bill for parts they've already recently done??

Sweet!!

I would always get a second opinion when your dealing with kwik fitters.

I was picking up a tyre for work at an ats depot

when a lad i knew drove in and started waffling on about the front shocks on his vauxhall omega

The fitter had a bounce on the bonnet and a quick shuffty underneath and said he need new shocks

I left at this time

I saw the omega owner a week or so later and asked him how much the shocks had set him back

he told me that ats had quoted him xxx(cant remember)

So he phoned around and found a cheaper independant fitters

When he turned up at the independant fitters to have the shocks fitted

They informed him that nothing was wrong with the shocks

So he may as well keep his money in his pocket.

Hi,

After reading all the tales, my dad uses National Tyres in Hamilton and all l can say is the service is good no probs so far. As for K F we wouldn't go near them lol.

Just thought l would chip in my £2 worth

A couple of skodas ago, it was in for a service..dealer rang me and said a tyre needed replacing..they gave me a quote, so i rang the big tyre chains'..they couldn't beat my dealer

It really is mega important these days to shop around, for anything (on both price & service!). We just saved almost £3k on a Mazda 5 recently...by playing one 'dealer' off against another...each time we visited, we hammered the price down until we knew they had no more to give...there were plenty other places to buy one if they wouldn't deal.

That has now got me on a roll of haggling/shopping around for pretty much anything...got almost 25% off a tailpipe for the 5 at Halfrauds, over 30% off two Maxi Cosi Car Seats & bases for the twins (due soon !)...saving over £140 on Halfrauds (who claimed to be the cheapest!)...got the Octy Vrs insurance down on last years price & made a huge saving on the price of two tyres for the Octy by giving Twit Fit a miss & taking my business to the indy boy 20miles down the road.

DON'T PAY THE ASKING PRICE FOR ANYTHING...HAGGLE...WELL MAYBE NOT AT THE LOCAL SUPERMARKET, BUT ON JUST ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE...TRY IT, YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED !

:iagree: If you ask for a discount, the worst that can happen is they say no. I've even had a discount out of Tesco when buying by the tray. You can't lose - you can only win!!

Took my fleet car to Kwik fit a while back (when I had it)

To put them to the test I convinently failed to tell them that it was Fleet.

Lef it with them

Returned to collect - when they asked for payment I told them - oh its GE Capital fleet.

They went mental, saying they had changed 4 tyres, tracking, air con and bloody fuel treatment!

My first comment was along the lines of, you haven't even rang me to ask weather I agree to have it done! Started going mad at them.

They had to take all the tyres of and put the old ones back on and had to admit, there was still 'some use' on them. They then had to phone GE and give the other work for free.

Idiots. Would never use them for my Octy

Do you reckon they are trained by HQ to be con artists or is it up to the local manager?

Trained by HQ. Must be, because they're all the same.

The guys at the top must know (& therefore condone) the antics that some of these guys are up to...I am only grateful that I know (& will let plenty others know) what their game is ! There should be no place for outfits like this in the modern motoring world!...new tyres getting fitted on Thursday night...from a decent outfit...that won't rip the 4rse out of my wallet either.

Must admit i always use my local Tyre man, Can walk in and get a price of a tyre that comes within a couple of pounds of online "tyre shops" no problem, if i buy 2 tyres then i get a discount :D

My Boss took his Audi A6 to fit kwick and they managed to lose the locking wheel nut after taking 2 wheels off, then Drilled the remaining locks out  Cost the leasing company "lots" of money to have it put right by Audi, The company has now told the lease company to find another suppler of tyres as they will nether use fit kwick again.

We have 1000 company cars with them, so they like to keep the boss happy :D

Well I had new boots fitted today by Event Tyres.

Prompt, courteous, no scuffing, balances fitted on the correct side , the convenience of them coming to my work place, and a good price.

225/45/17 Eagle F1 GSD3's. KwikFit price - £400. I paid £360 :)

does anyone on her work for quick muggers? (doubt they would admit it now) or know someone who does?
