Good value? Whats the catch?

Featured Replies

Seen a decent looking black 55 plate Comfort 1.9 TDI Manual, 61,500 miles. Up for £5595 with full history, although not skoda. A one owner car. Strikes me a decent value for the years and miles. Any thoughts? Might go and take a look.

Sounds okay, always worth a look. Strikes me as good value (an in terms of history the specialist history is probably better than the dealer, although it will affect the value) although of course it depends on the condition.

Superbs depreciate more than a depreciating thing in a depreciating place in Depreciatville, USA.

Looking on the Trader and ebay there are a lot of cars at very silly prices. This strikes me as a good car. Its an ex lease car, see a copy of the service print out and it looks lovely in black and biege interior. Spoken to the dealer - no offers and there is a taxi firm that is sniffing!

I am after a motorway cruiser, that is economical and cheap to run. What sort of realistic mpg will I get on the motorway at the usual speed?

My 130bhp Superb gives me about 50-55 indicated. Realistically I get about 45-50.

They're great motorway cars, especially with cruise (which should be standard on a Comfort).

Check under the carpet in the passenger footwell if you do go to look at it though!

Is that a blocked drain which causes leakage into the footwell?

Yes - it's well documented on this site. There are some drain holes in the engine bay which become blocked with leaves and this causes water to spread into passenger footwell. If this happens it could cause a lot of damage to wiring and convenience unit located there. The drain hole to watch out for is UNDER the battery tray and the tray needs to be removed to get to it. Also you could have water ingress through a leaking Pollen filter seal - check this also.

2 engine cover plastic plugs missing on Superb. Dealer "serviced"?

It was a lease car, serviced by "Nationwide AutoCentre" Derby. Are the plastic plugs a problem? Or just indicative of lax servicing and attention to detail?

"Serviced" by people who don't care. See if the door check detents and bonnet catch have been greased.

These cars don't tolerate poor maintenance, especially engine oil and fuel system.

Serviced carefully, with attention to specific weaknesses, the PD engined cars with 5 speed manual gearboxes will do starship mileages.

I know this has been asked a million times before but what is the standard spec of a Comfort? Does it have xenons? heated seats? PDC? Mats?

Parking sensors yes and mats. The others not on the standard comfort.

Will have cruise, cd changer, maxidot display, umbrella in rear door, might have folding rear seats, steering wheel controls - from memory thats all I can think of.

ive heard about the plumeting prices that the superb suffers from old and new....but at the end of the day if one keeps the car for years then the value for purchasing the is well worth the money....after all its well built....has comfort.economy and quite high spec wise....of course mine is the facelift with white dials and redesigned rear lights and mp3 player different alloys and a six speed box....touchwood its been excellent.....does what it says on the tin

What's in that, engine wise? Where's it up for sale... and how much you want?

Interesting. I've been thinking of moving from Skoda to Jaguar... :P
