STOP: Check Coolant and Bonet Liner

Featured Replies

Evening all :)

Got this message this morning, "STOP: Check coolant see service manual" and the water light flashing. Car has 35k on it, '04 1.8T. Red coolant is well over the min line and is covering the two prongs of the sensor in the bottle.

Any ideas?

Also - should the 1.8T elegance have a bonet liner? Mine's not got one, probably only about the 3rd time I've opened the bonet since new but I felt sure it used to have one!!

Cheers

dont think the petrols come wi the liner mate. if your water things are goin off it could be the water pump has broke a bit and it is restricting the flow. but still keepin enough goin to keep the engine fairly cool. id get it checked as if thats what it is it can be bad.

my thoughts ne way mate good luck wi it.

Just go on the search button>advanced search >mk1 octy section> "coolant bottle"

And your problem will be revealed.

i'm guessing this happens first thing in the morning when it's quite cold?

Normally it's corrosion buildup on the sensor prongs in the header bottle, you can either scrape off the prongs to clean them up a bit or replace the bottle for only a few quid.

Mine did it yesterday - just turned it off when warm and back on and its gone

Just to say thanks for the advice on here. Coolant bottle replaced for grand sum of £12.04 so hopefully that will sort it :)
