Ordered Sky HD

Featured Replies

That's lovely to hear :finger::D

I must live in an absolute tight **** area where we all held off for the boxes to become dirt cheap.:)

Some areas have been doing the town centre stall thing offering cracking deals if you sign up there and then. I've heard of free HD box if you sign up for all their services (TV, net, Phone), and the movies. Even £10/month for a year + free install on just a standard box, plus 1/2 price multi room for 3 months.

If they've been in your town, then this'll be why ;)

One question I have, is why Sky boxes have USB & Ethernet. For diags?

Not just those 2, but if you look closely you will also see an E-SATA connection, which also currently serves no purpose.

The USB ports are powered, and some use them to charge mobile phones ETC, but as far as sky goes there is no current use.

So sky turned up today to do my HD install. Didn't get too far before I asked if the box had component out. I didn't.

He rang his boss and they gave me a number to call so I could buy a refurbed Thomson box.

Tried the number I was given and after speaking to someone got cutoff while on hold.

Got the same the second time and for the third go ended up transferred to a queue that kept me on hold for 10mins.

So I called the cancellation people directly and I have cancelled my sky account. I really cannot understand these people. Such incompetence and then not even an apology.

Bye bye Sky.:finger:

Sorry to hear about that..... Though to be honest i thought you'd have problems with you requesting one of the old boxes etc. :(

Cheers

Dave.

The very reason I un-installed mine, they are a shower of ....., and tbh for the monthly charges you are better of going to live sporting events and buying dvd's/ going to the cinema/ searching the internet ;)

Bit of a shame that Ian. Would you like me to have a word with our local man that can or are you fully off the idea?

Maybe another option is to take the better box, eBay that and buy the one you want.

'future use' is what the official term is....... Although my bluray player has ethernet and USB inputs and both are actually used in everyday use so you never know.

Cheers

Dave.

The new Sky router I have has colour coded ethernet ports labelled as "for future use" IPTV i'm guessing.

I'm expecting trouble when the Sky bloke turns up at mine on the 21st of December, the cable run for the Co-ax is rather long. Bracing myself for a "it's not a standard install mate, £150 quid extra, can I fit you in for March ish?" :)

Would you like me to have a word with our local man that can or are you fully off the idea?

Thanks mate but todays experience has left me completely off the idea.

Just have to un-cancel my Virgin Media TV with my HD V+ box with composite outputs.:o
