Everyone makes mistakes, you have a good dealer, minor mistake quickly rectified, totally open about it & no cost to you. Cant really ask for more.

Well said, it's easier to get on a high horse when you're sat in comfort armed with a keyboard, surrounded by likeminded people most of whom will obviously side with you rather than the dealer.... I think often you can fall into a mob mentality.

In the real world, mistakes get made and errors happen. It's how those errors are cleared up that shows the quality of the Dealer. I reckon yours performed well.

Glad you got it sorted man.

Again - I totally agree.

Thanks

John

Roto - the leak was so minor that I don't believe it would have been noticeable when first fitted. Remember the filter was 5 weeks old and had had time to show signs of leaking. Origin - I don't know to be honest, but with the 2 yrs experience of this Dealer I am prepared to accept the explanation particularly as they insisted I went into the workshop to watch them investigate the problem. This way I was not goiung to be palmed off with Bull***t. The Daeler was Sherlodge garage Gillingham - and I have nothing but praise for them to date.

Regards

John

To be honest i wouldn't expect anything less from Sherlodge, there are some very good guys up there, Never had any problems with them.

Glad it's sorted John.

Took car in this morning and the Dealer requested that I go into the workshop with the car and observe them investigate the leaking Fuel Filter problem...

That smells suspiciously like the MK Secret Police have been sniffing around...

Still, regarding mistakes...

People do make mistakes, I agree. Companies however shouldn't, especially where safety is concerned.

Why is it then that retailers suffer if they make a mistake? Why should a vehicle manufacturer/franchised dealer not suffer if they make a mistake with a safety critical system?

:sofahide:

EDIT: I'm aware that this particular dealer has not made a mistake in this instance, I'm posting generally.

Glad it's sorted though

Whats happend is the spanner monker hasn't put the clip back properly on the main feed, all is required is to push it down and insert the clip, as this seems the case what does it tell you about who fixes the car, it's so simple, imagine this fool had to change the brake servo, how on earth the dealers employ these ppl is beyond me, I once had a Vectra 2.0DTi returned to me with oil dripping out of the turbo, the guy I showed it to couldn't believe it, how hard is it to put a seal in and tighten it up, I could've done 3k's worth of damage at the time all because he needed to make 60p in bonus.

Nice little vent there at the dealer network, of course you being the font of all knowledge then would know that the push down t piece and clip is on the return line and not the feed line.

That's exactly what I thought Stuart J.

Not really bud, that's why you pay £80 ph labour, and it could.ve been someone dropped the filter prior or at the time of fitting, did it show any signs of bendage around the leak.

You've still been inconvenienced for time having had to take it back, mistakes do happen, but I'm afraid any good fitter would check it before handing it back, and the pressure in the fuel system would show it up anyway, bonus making again at work tbh, and lets face it the fuel filter by design makes it an easy job to do, I'd be asking for the sump nut to be checked as well:rolleyes:

I used to work for VAG bud, I saw brake fluid changes binned and filters wiped clean etc cos it improved bonus time, I assumed this one would be the problem one as the other two pipes just push on and are retained by clips, and as for their dealers it's well documented on the web that once you've bought the car they don't wanna see you or help you until it's time to replace the car.

Glad you got it sorted however. I know it wasn't the issue but just for ref this is the collar...

There are two different types of filter fitted, one being that type, the other has a take off for the fuel cooler on it with a large 13mm allen bolt that holds it all together.

Great place you used to work for then. I just love it when people rant and rave and tar us all with the same brush, makes me really happy to go into work and make the effort to do a good job.

I never made any reference to you personally did I ?

I also pointed out iirc some of the sub standard work carried out by VX techs as well, there's an old saying, if you want it done right do it yourself.

I'll give you one to answer, can I or can I not use fuel injector treatment in a PD engine?

On VAG recomendations no, to do so would invalidate the warranty of effected parts.

On Forte's recomendations yes, they are that confident it will do no damage they will pay for any warranty repairs to the fuel system that can be attributed to their product.

No to be fair you didn't. But there only a handful of 'us' on here to speak and thousands of 'customers' so I have to play devils advocate and defend my brothers and sisters to some extent. Plus you post assuming the technician was a 'spanner monkey' and couldnt fit a fuel filter correctly would on face value appear to be a poor assumption as it was a faulty part.

Ross, keep doing a good job as most do & ignore the wingers

Ive had good & bad dealers & it dosent usually take long to suss them out & once you have found a good one stick with them. The majority seem OK or better

Everyone makes mistakes but as a society we have a lot of people who seem to love pointing out others mistakes & quickly follow on with "what can I make out of it" Normally they seem to be the dull grey un interesting people who have nothing better to do & will probably never achieve a lot in life.

Ok, np, try not to be so sensitive in future, it causes rashes :D

If the post was after 2am this morning I wrote it wasted tbh as it's my night out, my local Skoda dealer isn't very good though tbh, and I doub't you'd not check for leaks after changing filters would you, it seems in the OP's case they were fitted, and the cover stuck back on and the car booked out as done, as I said it's not only Skoda, I've had a VX service where the mech thought a handbrake was in tollerance on 7 notches, another who left a vac pipe off and didn't notice the lack of power taking the car back to the compound, I'm briking it right now as I need a cambelt, after seeing what a mess was made of Chris BP's dashboard I'm wondering if I'll get the car back looking straight, does the AC have to be discharged to do the belt?

No the a/c is nothing to do with the belt other than they will remove the belt driving the compressor.

Thats a relief in itself, thx.

And I really didn't mean to insult you, or make you feel that way.

Wow - I did not think this post would attract so many replies. Thanks to you all for your welcome and very useful comments. Thanks again to Lummox for the pics - I am not a person who goes under the bonnet other than to check levels and I have never removed the engine cover?

I think the comment about sticking with a good dealer is very relevant - and i will certainly be sticking with Sherlodge. The service they have provided over the two years has been excellent and they have made me feel very welcome every time I pop in there (even if it is only for a cup of coffee out of the machine). I think MDK1 has similar views on this dealer - right Mike?

Anyway I can really recommend this garage as they certainly try to give a courteous and professional service.

That's all from me now - just pleased I have the MOT in my sweaty hands. The next thing is Road tax at the end of the month.

Thanx to you all once again.

John

Don't often post or pop in much here, but I will add here my satisfaction with Sherlodge. They are generally a good bunch, and treat you and the car right. Whilst I have had a couple of issue's through the year's, overall they do a good job.

I'm a bit miffed as my Superb failed it's first MOT this morning at 3yrs old.

The reason was a diesel fuel leak around the fuel filter. It's going in tomorrow for them to find out exactly what is causing it. However - a new fuel filter was fitted a month ago. I wonder if this has something to do with it??

John

I'm surprised they changed the fuel filter - I was told that the OctyII I have won't get a fuel filter change until its 4 years old !!

Bored at work :)

There you go - another two thumbs up for Sherlodge, can't be bad can it.

Fuel filter changed every 2 yrs on my service schedule.
