What laptop for

Featured Replies

I dropped my laptop a couple of days ago, and the hard drive cover broke off and the drive fell out, put it back together and now it is pretty unresponsive, recovery console tries to start but fails and it wont even go into bios

Anyway, called my insurance and they are sending me out £400 of vouchers for use in either PC World or Currys.

Had a looksie about and spotted a Toshiba satalite with 3 gig of memory which sounds not bad Toshiba L300-13S Laptops - Cheap Toshiba Laptops.. Buy the Toshiba L300-13S laptop at PC World. but wouldnt mind a more informed ;) suggestion if anybody sees anything better?

I dont mind adding a wee bit to it, but not too much to be honest, up to £450.

Also seen the Advent 5411 for £439 with 4GB memory Advent 5411 Laptops - Cheap Advent Laptops.. Buy the Advent 5411 laptop at PC World.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 1525 is £399 with Intel DuoCore processor, 2GB RAM and 250 GB HDD. Extra RAM is £30 per GB.

Advent is lot of specs per £ but my impression is that should you drop it again an Advent won't come out of it in good condition...

Play.com are doing Sony Vaio laptops for around £400 we bought one a few months ago for £460 but the price has been reduced again I'll try and find a link.

Hmm, do play.com accept Currys/PC World vouchers?

I'd go for a Dell myself, their aftersales is superb too.

Fair play Tom, should really have read the original post:rofl::rofl:

No, but Currys and PC World sell Dell laptops. :P

In the cases where PCW price match, can't you get them to price match an offer on Dell providing the model is the same? I guess not, but worth a try :P

Toshiba ones are pretty reasonable. Got one earlier in year. Seems these days software as important as hardware. Check you get Vista premium if you want it.

Can't say I'm impressed by the Advent I bought last year. Cheap and cheerful. I would look elsewhere if I were buying again

To be fair though, its not had any problems.
