I believe it to be the same part as fitted to an Audi S3 in which case it's been tried before on a petrol vRS and worked fine, although the throw does not shorten any where near as much as the aftermaket ones, particularly from Neuspeed.

The short shift mechanism can be used on both petrol and diesel variants of the six speed box.

Thank you,

it won't shorten at its maximum, but it costs about 1/6 of neuspeed tool...

How much (is the Audi part)?

I know the Neuspeed one is pricey but it is worth it. The quality is 'aircraft spec', machined and polished to a very high degree, whereas the OE shifter I removed looked like it had been cast in a back street of Bombay or Havana!

Additionally, once you have got used to it the weight and length of travel from the Neuspeed shortshifter is spot-on; just a flick of the wrist. :D;)

This is really great!

How does it feel? It seems I really must go and shop for it...

Welcome.

I see the difference when I change gang from 3 to 4 and from 5 to 6.

I don't know the price for Neuspeed short shift, but the TT model cost 26.06€

That's £21.01  - I don't believe it! or perhaps considering the quality I'm not surprised.

Neuspeed one is £125 + VAT from Awesome GTI Store UK - VW Mk5 Golf Tranmission Products

It's the price from the official VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat dealler (at 22/08/2007).

There's a howto if you want to do it your self (french but you can use google for translation):

Short Shift pour O2 RS TFSI

The quality doesn't matter. It's the same "kit hardware (equipement)" like the original. So polished or not doesn't matter. The idea is to have the change with less money to pay ;)

Does a polished finish really matter? The lever is not on display - its fairly well hidden, and its not under much mechanical load. A basic casting should do the job.

Quite :)

Sorry Len it's gone to a new home.

Some interesting guides on that website, I especially like this one -

Corner light

Reminded me of some similar pictures I had recently -

Must have got the pics before I water marked them

Pretty easy to spot, apart from the red outline where I cropped it with Vista Sniping Tool, I also set that Workshop code and Importer number.

My French isn't that good either but the wording looks mighty familier too.

I drive the S3 short shifter already for a long time. There should be an even shorter shifter, that can be ordered in a TTS as an extra (here in Germany around 190€ if you order the car).

The S3 short shifter will shorten the throw from 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 around 20%. Was 12.5cm, is now 10cm.

It is a cheap extra that does the trick. Not as much as the neuspeed or forge one, but a lot cheaper.

Just found my bill.

8J0 711 051 B cost me 24,25€ incl 19% tax.

What the difference between the two is, I dont know.

The 8J0 is from an audi TT, not from a S3.

Sorry VRStu, but when I read your article, I post the traduction of this and I add the source to respect your "right". See my post: Phares antibrouillard avec fonction «Corner Light» - Page 3
