Nope. It's one user from the forum who take care of all the trick and put it on one website. It's difficult for some people to understand english :( so this website help a lot.

Would you mind asking him to place the correct credits on his website please.

Thanks.

So can anyone clear up what the difference is between the two audi shifts. Basically, which one is the better I guess?!

Stu,

It's an exact translation.

anyone ?

The part number starting 1K0 is the standard Octavia shifter and the 8J0 part is from the Audi TTS.

Ok thanks, but "blackspaven" and I were querying the differences between 8N0-711-051-B and 8J0-711-051 previously mentioned in this thread. Do you know ?

The S3 short shifter will shorten the throw from 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 around 20%. Was 12.5cm, is now 10cm.

Neuspeed short-shifter brings the throw down to 8cm (measured yesterday).

What about setting up the new shifter. Is it easy ?

The workshop manual looks fiddly - requiring locking of both gearbox selector shaft and gear stick position whilst cables are reset.

Just swap the two parts over. No setting up required.

Precisely, straight forward and simple; took me about an hour BUT at least half that time was moving the air intake to get at the shifter and putting it back after.

D'Uh...does this audi part fit on the Mk1 Octavia?

Don't think so; it is specifically for a 6-speed G'box (Octy I has 5 speed?).

However, Neuspeed do a short-shifter for the VAG 5-speed box (see Awesome GTI's website)

There may be a comparable part for the 5 speed box though.

Wonderful,

just ordered the part :)

To achieve an even shorter throw I'm evaluating to cut 1 or 1,5cm from the gear shift shaft.

Bis Bald!

which one you have ordered?

Went to a local Audi delaership toady (Sutton Coldfield) and according their database:

8N0-711-051-B is for TT quattro upto 2006

and

8J0 711 051-B is for the newer one.

There were none instock and only 2 in the whole country, and so I ordered the newer one (£26)

It was not possible to see any difference between the two on the computer screen.

Been there :)

Now - too seldom - using Patrick's game :)

Ciao,

Installed 8J0 711 051-B this evening. Took about 45mins in total - easy mod.

Used:

allen key to free the airbox retaining screw,

mole grips to release intake ducting spring clamp,

13mm socket for the nut on the shift arm shaft,

a small two legged hub puller to get the original arm off its splines as i couldnt pull it off by hand.

Works straight away - no need for any cable adjustment (ta VRStu)

im happy :D

For people who don't have or don't want to use the puller then I find you can normally get them off by rocking the lever up and down.

Got it installed: nice feeling, you can really appreciate the reduced rpm drop when shifting.

Great mod for small money. Next step is to shorten a bit the stick.

P.S.: Octy also had some Sintoflon Gear Lube and no crunched or messed gearbox :)
