Mud Flaps

That's why I asked, I thought his reply was slightly ambiguous!

That's because I was talking in metric.

I was referring to Obadiah's post!

I know!

Sorry. I have said earlier that I think that they are far too short, particularly on the 4x4, which is 17mm higher. They could definitely do with more length, possibly more width.

Of course, these days they are probably wind tunnel tested to make sure that they don't mess with the aerodynamics!!!

I guess that's the compromise isn't it? They have limited mud protecting ability, but perhaps don't give much wind resistance at 70mph?!

Having done a long run in the wet this week, the other thing that amazed me was the amount of crud on the back of the car, which I would have thought was supposed to be aerodynamic?

The back of the car is in an aerodynamic 'low pressure' area so the spray swirls around and lands on the rear of the car.

Many hatchbacks and all estates have to, for example, use the rear wiper to keep the rear window clean for this reason. However, the Octavia hatch gets airflow over the roof and rear window that keeps it clean but the vertical section of the boot/bumper gets dirty.

Mud flaps will have no effect on this. ;)

Wasn't expecting mud flaps to make a difference, was just a comment!
