Shell offer

Featured Replies

Not sure if this applies to all Shell garages but the one in Glenfield in Leicestershire is running an offer next friday where you can try Shell optimax etc for the price of normal unleaded/diesel.

Sounds good to me .

They did this last year some time (i think)...

I tried it in Nelly but didn't see any noticeable difference relly... apart from a ever so slightly smoother idle.

It is a good offer though.. and was done in pretty much every shell garage I think!

ohh I'll check my local shell, I wouldnt mind trying v power diesel

Use it most of the time unless Im going down to Jabba to be remapped.

You notice it more higher up the rev range but thats it. Apart from that it just keeps your injectors clean etc.

Haha they say it does...

It might have been sensible to have the same fuel in your car that you usually use when you took it to be remapped so that they can remap based on usual conditions etc, just a thought...

how do you know about this? is there a big notice outside the shell?

Well my dad told me, apparently there was a sign stuck on the pumps.

They did it last year and i gave my Leon FR TDI a tankfull, and it ran terrible compared Shell extra, so i never bought any more regardless of cost.

I won't be in the country next week, so won't be able to test it on the Fabia, but i wouldn't expect it to run any different.

i will keep my eyes peeled and see if i can spot it locally, but i remember last year known of the local garages to my knowedge did the offer.

Just a heads up - the Shell on Welford Road, Leicester next to the racecourse is running this offer on Friday (28th), and the Shell Trocadero in Humberstone is doing the same on Dec 4th. Should work out at 89.9p/litre if the current prices stick.

Yes and a free credit card skim while you wait!!

I don't suppose anyone has access to all nation-wide offers like this for Shell?

Ah thanks, will do my best to make it

theres nothing on there promotion page of the loyalty card site. I too would be interested.

There was a detailed report by someone on here testing basic diesel, performance diesel (I think he used BP Ultimate), and both of those treated with Millers Power Sport 4 which is a fuel additive which increases the cetane rating of the fuel by a similar amount to that quoted for the performance diesels. After 50k miles (IIRC) he concluded that basic diesel with a shot of MPS4 was every bit as good as any of the performance diesels, yet MPS4 can be had for the equivalent of 1p/l instead of the (IRO) 8p/l extra which is commonplace for the premium fuels. He also noted there was no point adding it to the premium fuels as they were already at the higher cetane level and it was either impossible or unnecessary to go higher (can't remember which). The benefits he noted were improved performance and higher mpg.

Consider this before opening your wallet !

But also consider that these offers allow you to try premium fuels for the same price as standard and therefore one would be foolish not to.

It takes at least a few tanks to notice the difference anyway, both with Millers and premium fuels. So don't expect to notice any difference immediately...

Steve

PD 130 diesel engines ...you can notice the difference from 10 miles onwards ....smoother, quicker pickup, ....but because you then use this extra power/smoothness the mpg suffers :D so you end up doing the same or even less mpg than before
