car is on 54K in 3 1/2 years and seen as it was time for the 3rd service I thought Id get the cam belt done too.

Had the car done by a nice little skoda dealer in Falmouth (Cornwall) and can say so far I am happy with the work.

£560 nearly for them to do.

I have only driven the car back the 8 mile and she is running nice. gonna go to plymouth tomoz and do some milage in the area before I go back up to camp, just in case the belt goes:thumbdwn:.

Dont think it will but jus in case. The boys at the garage are very friendly and helpful and I will use them again if I ever need her doing again while I am in the area.

Must say that even though people have trouble with the water pumps, Mine looked in mint condition, only trouble they said was it had started to weap a bit. I have gone for the std plastic pump as I have heard the metal one can seize and iirc it will break the timin belt? please correct if wrong.

Hate to burst your buble, I got a quote for a camb belt and water pump for £250, plus an extra £70 if I wanted a service done

Prices vary on location. For a main dealer thats not to bad. £250 is pretty darn cheap for a cambelt and water pump. Be intersted if they would change the damper as well for that as most dont. About the same price as I would charge for that, might be talked into doing the service for parts cost only

Claytarget god, I bought my car from Penryn Skoda and yes they are

a nice bunch, had my big 4yr service (cam-belt etc) recently and they

quoted me £520 but wouldn't gaurantee a courtecy car.

Mid Cornwall cars did it for £440 and reserved me a car for the day, must

say they were excellant, nice big service area (Falmouth's is a little cramped)

I would highly recommend them if you get a better quote from them for

any future work:)

i needed it doin as this is the only chance of doing it for a few month as i am prob gonna get a ban for excesive speed which is in another post of mine. so I wanted it done before then so she is all ready for me to make up the milage once i am back on the road lol.

I've just had my cambelt, belt and kit done (but not the pump, so having read some post after it's fingers crossed!) £250 all in and that in Hampshire, but in fairness that was the best price by some way.

Not changing the water pump at the same time as the belt on a MK1 vrs is a false economy because when the pump fails (which it will as they all do if left) the belt will need to come off again and the engine checked for plastic fragments which may have entered the waterways. For the small additional cost of the pump, its a no brainer.

I'll let you know if it is £250 for sure when I get it done next month

when i said I wanted both doin they said there was no need!

but I said all the same I want it doin as I have been on this site now for a while and am on all the time I can be.

when you get is serviced next time mate Id have it done, just in case. iirc the newer version of the OEM pump was a vast improvement on the older ones and if the car is used a lot I would think that it will be fine for a while as I said mine has high milage in jus over 3 n half year and it was in mint condition apart from the seal but Id of thought they would of seen it when changin the belt?

i have been quoted £180 fitted for a cam belt kit :eek:

now im quite sure that does not include the water pump but i will get it done (especialy at that price)

so if your in central scotland and need a good cheap fabia vrs driving mechanic pm me for details (not sure about advertising rules)

Ps he also has the same 4 wheel alignment kit that is used at star performance

That sounds way over the top for an Octy belt, I'm about to get my Superb one done for £392 including the pump from a main agent.

It just went up to £422 cos I'm having new aux belts as well, still £50 cheaper than the Skoda quotes.

about water pump, so they didn't do it.

It was a fourth year service but only 16k miles on clock, would that be

why? should I be concerned?

If you buy the parts from Skoda the total cost comes to £220.

Thats for; cam belt kit, tensioner/damper, water pump, RH engine mounting bolts and G12 antifreeze.

Just glad I can do the work myself and save a bit on labour.

Well mine seems to be a good experience, for any of you with Superb's I recommend you contact a VW dealer for work, I say this because they see the Passat a lot, where a Skoda mechanic might see a Superb once a year, and practice makes perfect imo, plus in this case it was £50 less than Skoda wanted.
