OK not a scary as the thread title sounds but following collection of Furby i found i had no rear wash wipe.

Having reconnected the pipes then found that the jet and cover are missing from the washer arm; meaning a push on the stalk results in a 10 foot jet of water at right angles to the rear window!!

Now while this provided comedy value when friends saw it (and an unknowing brother got sprayed) but SWMBO'd commutes a lot and tells me that while she thought it was funny to spray a tailgater's bonnet/windscreen they understandably were not so amused.

I gave her a lecture about the dangers of this "manouveur" especially as it was probably done at 70 mph but is it actually illegal??

Could be classed an inconsiderate driving... much like driving through a large puddle drenching any unwitting pedestrian(s)...

illegal.... well it was in 1994.....

my car at the time (an '81 fiesta) had the wash wipe spray twisted unknown to me to squirt the nearside and i was trying to use it to spray my rear window but nothing was coming out... or so i thought.... so i was pulling over to check the washer bottle... the police turned up and i was given a ticking off after they had seen what was happening and hearing my explanation(they had been a few cars behind)

It's an offence for the window spray device on your car to be defective. It's classed as failure to maintain glass. You can also be prosecuted for having an empty washer bottle under this road traffic offence.

You have 24 hours to hand yourself in to the nearest police station, or else the shooting will start.

already been to my local dealer and purchased new jet and cover so no more spraying but good to know where i would stand.
