Brake light/High beam still work with IGN off?

Featured Replies

Just noticed this with my girlfriends fabia, the brakelight still works even if the key is removed from the ignition, also the high beam flash will still light if you pull the left hand stick towards you, is this normal?

I'm thinking a relay is stuck on somewhere but I dont know where they are, can anyone enighten me?

Thanks, Dave.

Mine is the same, so I would presume its normal. My VW Transporter van does it too.......... Come to think of it, so did my Mitsubishi Delica. HTH

Yes that's German common sense (?) for you - you forgot to mention that if you leave the indicator switch to one side then that side's parking lights come on when you take the key out.

Toyota brake lights also work all the time. It makes sense. By hard wiring them a point of failure of an essential system is removed. British cars (or at least mine) never did this, but then again BL didn't understand electrics...

as mentioned earlier Its by design, there is no fault. VW's have been like this for quiet a few years, I believe its a safety feature required by some EU countries.

Funnily enuf i wondered this as well as it seems bizzare the brake lights work when no key is in.

but then again BL didn't understand electrics...

or rust proofing ,oil leaks etc:rofl:
