It just came off in my hand

Featured Replies

As title, did some shopping, loaded my boot and pulled down the material

'loop' thingy to close the hatch and it popped off.

There is a black plastic thing on the end of the loop, was dark so I didn't

investigate how it re-attatches, any ideas.

Not that worried if it can't be easily re-attatched, I can live without it.

Has anyone else had this??:(

blimey now theres something i've not seen asked before. cant help, but i mite be more careful with mine now

Couldn't believe reading this....

Exactly the same thing happened to me last night.

A youth from the group i was teaching was helping loading my car with dj equipment and pulled the parcel shelf too quickly and 'pop' off came the plastic thingy you have just described, i too was not able to see it.

Looks like a trip to the breakers yard for me to get hold of another!

You two are talking about two different things aren't you?

OP is talking about the fabricy handle/strap thingy used to pull the bootlid down... and you're talking about one of the parcel shelf strings, right?

As far as the bootlid handle/strap thingy goes I can't remember how it's fixed to the inside of the boot but it is easy enough to pull the trim away to have a look - harder to get it back in place though. I had to do this twice because the first time I left the strap inside! Doh.

You need to prise the trim with a fair bit of force to get the clips to give way. Be careful because they can break and be even more careful popping everything back because if they're not lined up with the holes in the bootlid then they might bend.

Have fun.

I'd also add, best done in warmer weather to give the plastic a chance of surviving. If its the same as the older Ibiza and current Polo then you need to make sure that you retrieve any clips that are left in the hatch metalwork and refit to the the plastic panel (wife's Polo hatch cover is cracked now - but heh, the hatch is usually closed so no problem!!)

IIRC, the webbing loop for pulling down the boot lid is attached to the metal of the boot lid itself. I can't remember whether it's riveted or screwed on, but should be fairly easy to repair once you've got the plastic trim off (which is easier than getting it back on, shall we say... :o ) As for the toggle on the parcel shelf string, any old bead or washer will do if as long as it's heavy enough - even a knot will see you right although your shelf will be wonky when it's up!!!

:) Thanks all, 'Foureyes' is indeed correct it's the pull down strap that came

off. I had to remove a boot liner on a Fiesta once and remember the agro

caused trying to replace it, so I may just leave it:rolleyes:

If it is indeed attatched directly to the bodywork, as suggested, I'll put

it's failure down to the Skoda strip down and re-spray, I've had cosmetic

problems with other parts (door-card assembly most notably) that have

been attributed to this by Skoda, they should have left it black:mad:

Cheers anyhow.
