Reliant Regal 3 wheeler.

Featured Replies

I got toasted by one this afternoon. He left the lights as though I was in reverse. Would love to know what was powering it.

Probably a bike engine :D Someone say power to weight :D

i've seen one with a rover v8 hiding inside before

I shudder to think of a bike engine or Rover V8 in a Regal.:D I did remember seeing a piece in the nationals ages back about a guy being done for speeding in one which was supposed to be bog standard but they weigh next to nothing so even with 30hp they may be quick off the lights;)

iirc they have a 3 cylinder 750cc motorcycle-esque engine in as standard

my brother had one for his first car (he was given it) and i think his was an 850cc unit, maybe an A series. it was quite sprightly off the lights till about 25mph then it would lose interest :D didn't go round corners too well either....

My mates dad used to use these cos he only had a bike licence, we used to mock it by shouting bang as he drove by, then one day it became an ambulance for me as I'd managed to open my leg up quite severely, I was all for going to bed and hoping it would be ok in the morning, but mum had other ideas, I never took the mick outta that van ever again.

maybe an A series.

deffo not an A series engine , iirc it was an all alloy engine of Reliants own design/manufacture, 600 and 750cc in the Regal , 850cc was used in the Robin from 1975

Slightly OT but a few years back on the Isle of Wight I came across three people standing on the grass verge with a small pile of rubbish in the road in front of them. A few yards further on was a Metro and I stopped to ask if any help was needed. Apparently the heap of fibreglass scraps had been a Reliant. They had run into the back of a Metro at very low speed and the Reliant had entirely disintegrated around them so that the occupants just stood up, brushed themselves down and walked out of the road. They were unhurt but I'd hate to think what would have happened to them if the car had been going faster.

The Metro was absolutely unmarked - not a scratch.

having spoke to him about it you're quite correct, but so was i. his had an 850 mini engine put in it before he was given it :) he also knew of a guy who had one with a 1275GT motor in it :D
