Fitting Cupra consule bushes not such a good idea

Recommended Posts

Maybe a stupid question, but are you sure that this job has been done correctly? I got a local indep VAG specialist to replace these bushes on my wife's Polo 9N 1.4SE (torn voided bushes) with solid Cupra ones a couple of years ago, had be warned by postings (Lummox?) that some extra road noise might be evident, but as it turned out there was none - just a sorted car!

One point I'd make, just check that the Cupra bushes are fitted in the correct way round (front to back) and are fitted in to the correct "depth" in the consoles!

Just re-read your posting - vibration in the cabin at certain engine revs - I'd be surprised if that was due to changing the type of TCA rear bushes - is something under the bonnet engine/exhaust not touching the chassis as a result of this car being worked on?

Its a valid point. Sounds more like a DMF issue to me, which we al know loading up the DMF at low revs such as 1300/1400 rpm will kill it in no time.

Thanks to those for the helpfull info. I wish I lived closer to Lummox he has a good reputation for getting all things right, its a very long drive to his location for me from up north.

Can anybody tell me or show a pic which way these cupra bushes should look like fitted in the consule.

many thanks

Taking my wife's car as an example, the Cupra bushes have a "stepped" end and a "flat" end - crude description but it might work. The "stepped" end should be towards the front of the car so you will not see it (the step will be inside the aluminium console). The "flat" end should be reasonably close to the rear of the aluminium console - maybe just flush +/- a "bit". The step is there so that the inner of this bush does not foul the TCA - by a step I mean like a counterbore - ie the inner area is shorter than the outer area - but both areas are flush at the rear-most end of this bush.

i've got Cupra bushes on my vRS , been on for 18 months , i seem to remember at the time of fitting there was slightly more more noise , this eased off overtime, and has been said the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion

i would be looking for other reasons for your vibration , putting the engine under full load at 1300-1400 rpm is not good for a start off , as you will get vibration from the DMF , which will lead eventually to failure of it (£££££££)

plus is there something not fitted back correctly , AFAIK the subframe still has to be dropped even when the bushes are fitted in situ , there could be some misalignment of the subframe/gearbox dog bone mount
