tickover problem on superb. can anyone help?

Featured Replies

Hi, i have just purchased a 2008 superb 2.0tdi (140 bhp)

and i am having problems with the tickover. this seems to happen sometime after using the car, and for some reason the tickover is sitting

at 1000 rpm for about 4-5 mins then drops to 750 rpm, which is what it should be. As soon as you set off and stop the tickover ticks over to 1000 rpm then drops again. If i switch the car off for a couple of mins, its ok for a time. Also if its not doing this the tickover is not smooth and is up and down for a few seconds and is ok. All this is happening when car running and stationary. My thoughts are to a faulty idle control valve. Can any one help?

Diesel engines don't have an "idle control valve" - the idle is controlled by the governor.

Get the fault codes read and work from there. It's possible that a faulty engine temperature transducer could cause this, but guessing is an expensive game - usually reserved for dealers changing perfectly good bits at the customer's expense.

Presumably it's under warranty anyway.

rotodiesel.

Just a quick thought, is the a/c on? Have known the revs to be irregular on idle if the climate control is doing its bit!

DPF issue possibly?

DPF issue possibly?

No change in rpm when my DPF is regenerating, not sure if a Skoda is the same though.

It seems common around here that the VAG DPF does increase engine revs when it regenerates.

I have no first hand experience as I'm lucky enough not to have a DPF :)

i was reading this thread...and it reminded me of the same problem i had with my facelift 140 comfort model.....in my case, i was driving at night at around 30mph and noticed the revs were higher than usual when staionary...around 1000 rpm instead of 750 rpm....and i thought the alternator was at fault, as the lights were dimming, then coming back bright.

I was only a few hundred yards from home, and when i arrived i left engine running and had bonnet up with a powerful torch looking for maybe a missing belt of unusual noises...but nothing....except a most peculiar smell coming from the exhaust....a kind of burning i would say.....when i placed a question on this site to find out if anyone had similar problems, i was informed it could well be the dpf regenerating....ie burning off soot...my wife does lots of local driving around town, so i presumed that was the problem

We now give the car a blast weekly on M27, and so far touchwood, no further problems...i hope this might be of help to you..regards

FILES ATTACHED IN THIS POST. PLEASE LOOK!!!!!!! Thanks, this is very similar to what my car was doing( question above), but now its doing this less and its now the eractic idle that is the main problem as this does it all the time when stationary for about a couple of mins then settles down, i have video footage of both problems while i was working, and i am hoping that this maybe able to help give info at the main dealer to try and rectify the problem(s) Thanks for all comments made. Any more thoughts, keep posting.

PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT THE FILES ATTACHED AS THESE ARE CLIPS OF THE 2

PROBLEMS, AND LET ME KNOW OF YOUR VIEWS ON THEM.

IF YOU CAN'T VIEW THEM FOR SOME REASON, LET ME KNOW.

Um...

I'll check the videos later when I'm at home, but does nobody else think this is the DPF regenerating?
