Opinions Please, My New Car..........Hopefully........

........X reg (2000) Volvo 2.4T SE Auto XC Estate .The car has covered 90K, money spent on it was no object, using Volvo Parts/Servicing. Ash Gold in colour and has Eletric everything and full leather (Top Spec). Extremly good condition, everything works and 18 months ago was converted to run on LPG. The car was my Father in laws and he has just picked up a new XC D5, the part X was Rock bottom so he offered it to me for very little money (cos he likes me) Well.....................?? :)

Grab it.

Sounds nice! 90K is nothing. Fuel consumption of petrol Volvos is not, erm, competitive, but with LPG economy might be different (don't know about gas prices in the UK). LPG in Sweden is a nuisance (filling stations few and far between) but guess that it's another thing in the UK.

I only do about 3k a year so MPG isn't that important. LPG is round about 50p per litre in the UK and it's quite easy to obtain. 20 mpg around town 30 on a steady run perhaps so it's almost half price motoring with gas............

Ash Gold is a really cool Volvo colour.

Go for it!

Nothing to lose there :)

Sounds good... get it bought and get some pics up!

LPG i believe slightly inproves your MPG but as you say at 50p/litre that effectively doubles your MPG figures compared to petrol!

Get it bought! Sounds like some cheap comfortable motoring there. :D

LPG mpg is usually lower than on petrol... but as lpg is nearly half the price but not half the mpg it's a good money saver especially if you've not had to pay for the conversion.

And how much will the tight git charge you for it?

I assume you mean for the car ????....... Also Cam-belt,Tensioners etc all done at 85K :)

maybe its rubbish but swmbo's lpg vectra(vauxhall conversion, not after market) does less mpg and doesn't run anything like as smooth and takes a noticable drop in power on gas compared to petrol, that and lpg is about 65ppl and 95 is low 90's its hardly worth it really as its nearly even. £25 or so on lpg does just over 200miles i think, not sure what petrol does though :)

lpg is 49.9ppl around here. :)

Oh and the tax is going to remain pretty low until at least 2011 IIRC.

not many garages in oxford either :( one in fact, there's also one on the way to swindon(A roads not M4 etc) and one at high wycombe, that about covers it within 30miles or so as far as we have found :(

All 3 Morrisons in the area (Hull) sell it and thinking about it so do Shell and Total.

Once saw a woman pickup the lpg nozzle and look all confused when it wouldn't fit her non-lpg car.

Also on the LPG front, do they not offer a discounted road tax for lpg converted cars? or is it only newer (post march 2001) cars?

I presume this is a V70 XC? I like those  - any pics?

Re LPG running, I think it very much depends on where the kit's been fitted as there's obviously the question of getting it running with existing engine management, and getting it to run and switch seamlessly. There's usually a second ECU installed too, which either piggybacks the existing, or has to converse fluently :)

Yep it's an V70 XC. The car starts on Petrol then automaticly switches to gas, if you run out of gas it converts back to petrol. there is no difference in performance between the two fuels and I think mpg is roughly the same. if you didn't know it was running on LPG I don't think you can tell the difference The Gas tank is located in the spare wheel well under the floor at the rear and the filler pipe is on the drivers side near the wheel arch....hope to pick it up next Monday.........Piccy's to follow

sounds good, our vectra is a bag of spanners to be honest but its her car and she won't get it serviced, silly bint.
