60 litre fuel tank??

Featured Replies

After watching Top Gear last night, Clarksons Jag could have run on for another 120 miles despite the fuel readout saying he had nothing left in the tank. So this morning I set off for work from North London in my petrol vRS with the MFD saying I had 10 miles left. By the time I reached South Mimms it was down to zero. A further 40 miles later I arrive at work in St Neots, goto refuel and can only get 52 litres in, filling it to the brim!

Im sure it says in the spec I have a 60 litre tank.

Do they allow for a contingency? Or to put it another way, idiots like me not re-fuelling when they should!

Can anyone tell Im really really bored?

One possibility is that you might have been able to do another 40 miles on what you had left in the tank.

If you have (likely as not) been driving around N. London over the weekend getting high fuel consumption, giving a low miles range readout.

You then get on the A1-A1(M) and cruise gently northwards getting improved fuel consumption that would increase the range in direct proportion to fuel being used that will reduce the range. Hence you travel 40 miles with the range reading the same (0 miles in your case). I bet if you had fuelled up at South Mimms you would only have got 48 litres into the tank.

Make sense or  ?

I thought the tanks were 55 litres on Octy II's. You must have been very brave to drive 40 miles with the trip computer showing zero.

Thanks, That does make sense, the range is based on your current comsumption. However it didnt go above zero anywhere up the A1 despite taking it easy!

Ive just checked, and Yup , your right 55 Litres! So I did cut it a tad fine. Needless to say I won't be trying that again!

I think basically I have come to the conclusion that if the display is reading zero you still got around 30-50 miles depending on your current MPG

There is possibility to put 60 liters of fuel in 55 liters fuel tank.

In the upper area of the fuel tank is formed an air pocket (its main purpose is to buffer increased volume of the fuel if it is going hot).

This is because the loading pipe is not going into the tank in the its highest point.

There is also a small pipe going from the air pocket to one-way valve next to the fuel cap.

If you let the air from the air pocket to escape, you will succeed filling more than 55 liters.

Note, that doing this is not recommended, especially in hot weather!

One of the easiest methods is to shake the car while filling.

I filled my car today and managed to get 50.1 liters at 90.9P :)

60 litre tank in the Vectra, drove it 30 miles after it said I had 0 miles left, got 54 litres in to it. So, it's very possible the fuel computer on the Skoda is set up like the Vectra's and is very conservative in it's readings.

There is a 60 litre tank in the 4x4 and AFAIR the Scout.

90.9p?? Almost worth the drive that far north!! :)

i ran mine last year to the point it conked out on the forcourt, think it came to 58 litres including filling it to the brim.

Lyon to the Scottish Borders, 5 up full boot 1.9 tdi 130 PD Superb 870 miles 57 litres

and the fuel warning just came on half a mile from my house

I managed 54.6L once - 780km

89.9 at Asda down here for unleaded.

Having just bought my Octy I have just been reading the owner's manual. Yeah, weird I know.

Nevertheless according to it...

55 litre fuel tank with a 7 litre reserve after low fuel warning.

Distance to zero is determined by measuring the average fuel consumption for the last 50 kilometres driven. The manual specifically notes that if you then drive harder than the last 50km you will get less than the estimated distance left and conversely if drive you more gently your range will exceed the car's estimate.

Is that 55 in total or 55 plus 7 =62????

I always brim mine so if the tank holds 55 how many does the filler hold

feck me mate, you must have been bricking it

55 total. The 'low fuel' light generally comes on with range equivalent to 5 to 7 litres remaining.

48 + 7 = 55 ;)

48 + 7 = 55 ;)

Plus what you can get into the filler:thumbup:

I managed to squeeze 50.x liters of premium into mine today with about 30 miles left until empty, according to the trip computer. I usually stop at the 3rd time the pump nozzle clicks, this time I forced it just a tad further.

This was at an avg of 7.5l/100km, as I was quite in a hurry.
