Opinions please and dents

Featured Replies

Hey folks, looking for your opinion on a few things. First off, i'm thinking of having my grille insert, front bumper inserts, wing mirrors and wheels sprayed in the Audi white. Also having the front and rear bump strips removed, de-cluttered and smoothed, what do you folks think?

Secondly, I have noticed a few dents on the car, nothing major, no paint cracked off but a few dings on the C-pillar and doors that show up in certain lights and nake me feel down hearted, any help is welcome!

What colour is the rest of the car?

IIRC is it sillver Duggie?

I should know really as I have sat in it... memory like a sieve!

Blackmagic... paint in good condition.

oop stand corrected, I think white would look good with the black mate

Well, that would be nice, but I think it will be even nicer if you go for cream (light cream, light beige). :) I've seen a Golf V on the net with a few cream details and Maibach wheels and it was bananas!

If I leave it for long enough it will turn cream anyway... lol. I was going to say the Audi S3 orange but think that would be a little mental. I'll wait for a few more opinions then see if my guy in witney can sort it out.

Cheers.

For no paint damage dents, get a block of dry ice and a good pair of thermal gloves. All you have to do, is gently rub the ice around the dent. As the ice cools the surrounding metal, the metal shrinks and pulls the dent out. Won't work if the dented metal is 'stretched', but if the dent is shallow, this is what dent removal dealers don't want you to know.

I wouldn't paint the inserts white on a black car, ruins the stealth factor

Does this actually work? - I've got a tiny flattish dent in the rear quarter panel, which could do with being sorted - however its only noticeable in the right light. Also, where do you buy dry ice from, and also doesn't it melt on your way home unless you have a freezer...?

Yes honestly it does work, there are even videos on You Tube of it being done. I get dry ice from the slaughter house! stays solid if placed in a simple double layer plastic ice box as used by paramedics.

You can also use cans of 'freezer' as used by electronics engineers, but it's a slightly different process. You need to spray around the dent, and not into the dent if that makes sense. The process relies on the metal around the dent 'shrinking back' and thus stretching the dent out.

Anyone trying this, just make damned sure the gloves you use are up to the job. Dry ice will have your skin off if your not careful.

Best bit of advice ive ever heard on here mate Thanks !

Orange might be nice, but might end up looking like a bumblebee!

Oi! I wanted a Black car with white trim :p lol, seriously babes do it! Will look wicked i reckon.

As for the dry ice doodah its supposed to work but never been able to find anywhere to get it. I asked the head of science and he said they couldnt get it. Cheers for the tip i have 1 small parking dent which upsets me lol (as do the stone chips enough to say stuff it and pay for an entire respray next year lol)

Stone chips are a nuisance, but the art of fixing them is pretty easy. First rule is don't wait until there are too many of them to deal with in one session, you just get bored and end up with a bad job.

Buy the correct touch up paint and lacquer and mix these together to save doing base coat then lacquer, with mixed paint and lacquer you only need to do the touch in once.

Forget the paint brush, use a toothpick. Put the minimal amount of paint on the toothpick and hold it down on the stone chip damage. The paint gets drawn into the chip by capillary action. Allow to dry for two hours, then take some Maguires Scratch X and rub down any high spots in the paint.

It will never look perfect close up with metallic paint, but from four feet they should be almost invisible.

Some of the touch up kits have paint that is too thick, so thinning with cellulose thinners helps.

don't dismiss the Audi Orange so quickly Duggie

I maen it worked for Porsche....

Can you get someone to Photoshop it for you Duggie ?

Not convinced until i see it...

I guess it'll either look ace...or pants. :D

Duggie,

I'll photoshop the rims on whilst Im sat here at work if you like? just post a profile shot of your car and I'll quickly do it. I might not be able to post the results up till I get home tonight though as the server at work tends to block photobucket.

John:thumbup:

I have change the wheel colour on my black Black Furby vRS with standard rims which will give you an idea what the Porsche orange is like, unfortunately I cant upload tihs till I get home from work.

I can't imagine it myself ... I'm sure it'd look pretty striking.

I'm not sure it'd work tbh, but I'm looking forward to seeing it photoshopped :)

Post up a picture of your motor.

Get it photoshopped and get some more oppinions.

If i was to do it i would only have the bonnet and roof done.

Possibly the mirrors.

Smooth bumpers would be a nice touch though.

OK as Duggie hasnt posted a pic of his car yet, Ive done mine with orange (standard) wheels....

Post up a profile picture of your car and the wheels you have chosen and I'll photoshop them no problem.

John

i like it

I think I do too, I had some comedy colours going on when I was doing the above as well, I'll do the trim next in the same colour - give him a good idea

u know barbie pink would be ace tho :D
