N95 8Gb problems with car bluetooth

Featured Replies

Car bluetooth systems cant read text messages from my Nokia N95, the 'Blue & me' system in my old Fiat couldn't read them and now the THB Bury CC9060 unit i have installed can't read them either. I have upgraded to the latest firmware on the Bury and it has made no difference, i installed an applet for S60 devices from the Bury site and it made no difference. Is this just a problem with the phone? Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?

My phone is locked to vodafone so its stuck on firmware v21, would debranding it and getting the latest Nokia firmware make any difference?

Nope, I would be very surprised if you ever got this working and I would love to hear from anyone who has. It's probably going to be down to the non standard standard that is Bluetooth, there are no service bulletins relating to this handset that indicate it's ever been a feature and/or been an issue adressed in firmware updates. TBH I haven't found any systems that have this feature genuinely working properly and honestly it's probably for the best as your eyes and mind should be concentrating on the road.

i think (from memory ) that a lot of phone/bluetooth device manufacturers were asked to remove that function as it was concidered a safty hazard (reading text messages on the move)

i know my tomtom used to let me read texts but after an upgraded software it now dosen't :(

Well the Blue&Me in my GPS used to actually read them out, as in a woman would read the message, was very useful, it didnt have a screen so there was no danger. It used to do it with my SE w910, but not with my N95. Now i have the BUry i know it displays them and i think it reads them, but not with this bloomin phone apparantly, even after i've unlocked it and upgraded the firmware. I tried this (see attached PDF) from the Bury website but it doesnt work on the phone as described.

Its more the phone (any N-series) than the kit.

You can do a search on All About Symbian - News, Reviews, and Software for Symbian, Series 60 (S60) and UIQ phones or at the nokia discussion boards about this issue.

The applet that you have for the phone was designed to send the contacts to the car kit not the text messages. You shouldnt need this with the Bury, the contacts should be sent automatically but not SMS or the last call lists.

Debranding and a SW update wont help Im afraid. For some reason, Nokia missed out part of the bluetooth protocol on the N-series phones that is present on most other non n-series Nokias.

I swapped the N95 8Gb to a SE C902 for that very reason, incompatibility between phone and the Skoda BT kit.

Ironically, I now have a N95 from work and use that with the CC9060 thats in the freelander and works much better than it would with the Skoda kit but not as well as the C902 does.

So, either you will have to get used to it, or swap it for another handset at some point.
