Light switch delay

Featured Replies

I've noticed on my new TSi that when I switch from headlights to side lights there is a very slight delay before the headlight go off. Is that normal or a fault?

I didn't notice it on my previous 2.0FSi

I'm sure someone will have the definitive answer but yes, I think it's normal and is due to the design of modern cars' wiring systems as it routes the signal around the wiring from switch to lights.

Mine does that since i enabled Coming Home/Leaving Home lights with VCDS.

Same as above.

SoulRider, any idea if I can have the coming home interval changed to say 10-15 sec? Also, can 5 blinks be set into the comfort turn function?

I don't have VAGCom myself so I have to ask a friend for this.

Mine has always done that.

Like a lot of modern cars, it's all done via Canbus, so the switch tells the ECU to turn the lights off, and the ECU tells the relay to open to turn them off, which takes a few fractions of a second.

Hi selubus

You can set the coming home/leaving home lights from 0-60 seconds, you can do this with maxidot if you have it fitted if not VCDS, As far as i'm aware you can not alter the comfort turn function from the default 3 blinks. Hope this helps.

Yes, and not to mention it saves the bulbs when they don't go out when switching to "lights ON" from 0 -position. I think that's the main reason why there's a delay.
