design fault???????????

Featured Replies

Ive had the new octy for a few weeks now and other than returning 27mpg I didn't really have any complaints..............until............it rained!

Every time I open the boot, anything inside it (and the back speakers!) get drenched!

Is this a common fault, and is there a mod to rectify it???

cheers

It is a common fault.

Best way is to lift up the boot a couple of inch's let the water drain off then open it fully.

My Laguna had the same problem as well.

When I got my Octy (nearly 3 yrs ago) I couldnt beleive it when the rain just poured into the boot and filled up the speakers. I rang Skoda and asked them how they could let such a huge design fault go through to production. There response was it was a design feature.

I would of thought it could be rectified by a small plastic lip from the bottom of the rear screen gutter to the top of the glass so the rain pours up higher up into the tailgate void and not the boot.

Easiest way to get rid of the water is to open the boot to about 45 degs, so that the water runs off but goes down the 'gutters' at the side instead of into the speakers. I posted the same query when i got mine.... i also got the advise to keep a cloth or chamois in you car (not in the boot, coz you cant get at it!!) & wipe most of it off before you open the boot. Pain in the ar$e really... i hope they've sorted it on the new octavia!!!???

I got the same response as above "it is a design feature - not a design fault" and when I mentioned it again the response was "I have not heard that mentioned before"

Customer service really is cr*p these days.

I also raise the boot about 45 degreesgive it a shake and then open it, a rag stays in the boot and is used for wiping any water that does come in.

How about , Don't open the boot when its been raining :D

Try getting in through the door instead :D , seriously though, this annoys the p155 out me, am trying to come up with a solution :( ..............

Fill the crack between the glass of the back screen and the metal of the "boot" lid with sealant.

I have heard of people using silicone sealant, then smoothing it off so it is flush. I believe that there are various colurs available " from all good stockists"

My previous car ( Octy ) did the same, just did what most people do, open it a short way to let the main water run into the channels. Although any odd water left got blown into the boot when it was a bit breezy.

thanks for all the replies. I cannot believe that skoda (well, VAG really) has let something so major go on for so long. Given that it rains most days in this country, and most people tend to use the boot of their car, they must be fed up of customers mentioning this to them! It was absolutely bouncing down the first time I did it, and I think it must have filled my speakers up! Surely that cant be too good for them! I may try running a bead of silicone sealant along the sides of the rear screen and see how i get on. (just a bit worried of making a complete pigs ear of it!)

try doing opening the boot after you've spent the afternoon before safeguarding the car.... :(

i do the old open it a bit trick to let the mojority run off and then its normally fine, i have been know to put my laptop bag in the back of the car when its raining though just to avoid using the boot.

The ultimate solution.
The ultimate in stupidity.

Surely that is buying a car which floods the boot every time you open it in the rain, eg your vRS. :P

Drive it fast enough and the water doesn't settle ;)
