Screen wash heater

Featured Replies

Now that it getting a bit colder, is there an after market kit you can buy to keep the washer bottle and the jets from freezing over, even with a good doze of winter screen wash the jets freeze over

yes

I have heated screen wash jets fitted in the factory (only 25 Euro option ;)).

Does anybody knows, when they are actually getting active?

I guess the heating activates only with lower external temperature (and active jets, of course :P).

---

The purpose of heating is not to prevent freezing of the washer fluid, but to melt the ice plaque over the jets (if any).

I wonder if they can be got over in the UK as an after market kit

I'm interested too!

just been to the dealership cos the headlamp washers jammed (happened in the frost last year). They gave it the once over, fixed the jam and noticed the rear washer wasnt working either! The believe the leak is behind the dash - so car needs put in for at least one day for the dash to be removed and leak. Told not to use the rear wash just in case :) Gotta say - 10 outta 10 to them

Re the factory fit: didnt even know that was an option!

i didnt and would look into it if it could be done, maybe a brisky group buy? :D

Cheaper option in my opinion would be to put neat screenwash in :)

I bought this on ebay a few weeks ago from the states for $35 +p&p (new kit)

Fitted an tried it out for the first time yesterday, quite impressed with results so far!

It sends some steam down the pipe to un-freeze them then clear the windscreen from ice with nice warm water (but not hot enough to damage it).

More info:

Microheat

However seems like they no longer manufacture the units so ebay may be the only option...

They activate when the rear screen defroster or mirror defroster are on. They're not automated.

My car has been in -26C all night long, and, the next morning (still -18 -20C) the windshield washer jets weren't frozen, with the right (not that expensive) wash.

If good quality wash is not available in your area buy 1l of distilled alcohol, add some of that each time you refill the bottle.

I fitted something like this MANY years ago on a triumph spitfire !! worked great, just surprised it's never been made standard :(

I had heated jets on my Focus but they just froze further back in the pipes.

Is neat screenwash not bad for your paint?

Can you buy distilled alcohol in those quantities in the UK?

Tesco's own Vodka isn't quite cheap enough for that.

Scouter2, was it easy to fit please?

Are you still impressed with it?

Dead interested, just found some on e-bay they are 110 dollars! But willing to give it a try.

Any further deatils who you got yours from was it a trader or a 1 off?

Any info gratefully recieved by a fellow Scouter.

Cheers.

Where I live, technical alcohol is tax free, costs about 3 euros a liter. Bought one last year and still have some left.

It's also great for cleaning any electronics bits you might have in the house, such as a soaked remote and what not.

It didn't work first time round this morning. It flashed for a couple of minutes. Pressed the button again and it worked fine. Will read the manual this evening to see what the issue was.

I bought it from jbower5678 who had plenty for sale, but doesn't seem to have them anymore: eBay Feedback Profile for jbower5678

It you look on ebay search also for webasto hotshot as they sold them in Europe. (Also look for windshield rather than windscreen - Americans!)

Fitting wasn't too hard, it required cutting the original washer pipe and the hardest was finding a suitable place to fit the unit. I put it in the space on top the washer fluid. Not convinced my installation is the best though! Getting the wire into the cabin was interesting... but thanks to this place received good advice about putting through a hole which is behind the glovebox.

$110 does seem a bit expensive to me though with the current value of the £... :(

Thanks Scouter2.

I'll have another browse.

Cheers.
