Common problem is going around roundabouts and not getting around. Look up Rear ARB or Jabba. Makes you go around the roundabouts. Have fun and enjoy the new motor.:)

^ Said in a whymsical way but I would go as far as saying a RARB is an ESSENTIAL thing to do the car, even if not driving it hard.

As far as I know, the only truly catastrophic thing you can fail to do is service it as per schedule, pretty much everything else is strong. If you need to do the cambelt then get the waterpump done at the same time as it's a cheap extra and the plastic blades on the standard one can shatter after some time apparently.

When the steering goes sloppy, get the uprated console bushes from the Seat Ibiza (rear) and Powerflex (front) and you might want to think about Scotchguarding the upholstery as it does tend to get a bit grubby.

You can redo the rear door seals, but it's certainly not under the heading of preventive maintenance in my book. But then mine haven't leaked yet...

Make sure you put the right oil in it, anything with 505.01 spec will do.

Fabia-vrs.com - Re-sealing Fabia Rear Ancillaries Carriers

On the above site. The joint between the ancillaries carrier and the sheet metal of the door develops leaks. Usual symptom is a pool of water on top of the rear door sill when you open it. And interior condensation can be quite heavy. In bad cases, wet carpets, musty smells etc...

Other stuff....

Typical sensor problems...

Coolant and fuel temp sensors can go on the blink leading to a CEL and maybe interesting starting behaviour. Such as a flick-rev to 1500rpm before settling down.

Rear screen wash pipe comes apart easily (too easily) if frozen.

Front wishbone rear bushes go easily, as do the front ARB droplinks. On early cars, the ARB location sleeves can part company with the ARB leading to knocking and the ARB wandering.

Mods.

Best performance mod for the car is a Whiteline or Jabbasport rear ARB. The rear end is more than a little ungainly without one. A close second is a generic remap to around 170+bhp. Best cheap mod is to replace the air filter every 10K as the dealer interval is 40K. Which is more than daft IMO.

Non-performance mods... Best buys are the cruise control retro-fit and the boot net system.

thanks, on that site it says you need a kit

"Parts Required - Kit Part Number HHC 506 750 which is sufficient for 2 vehicles. Approximately £43.45 Inc VAT"

??? all he seems to use is some silicone sealer ???

anyone know the contents of that kit ?

Just buy silicone sealer, i bought the kit and it was naff, sealent was bloody out of date.

Another thing to watch out for. Speed Cameras.
