Superb V6 TDi problems

Recommended Posts

Well guys...

Replacement timing belt, pump belt and pulleys and tensioners.

New water pump(as there was a heavy water staining on the front of the block).

New Auxiliary belt and new injector pump..

Car is running and driving great, had it back a couple of days now and everything seems fine and dandy.

The garage sent the pump away for it to be checked at a diesel specialist. They confirmed there was a problem with a timing solenoid internally in the pump??? I will check the report for the diesel specialist as it was included with my bill, and quote what it says.

Im happy, but my pockets are very light just before christmas..

Anyone wish to hazard a guess at the final bill..??

Editted to say that when i was looking at the car the other day,the timing gear didnt seem adjustable(not vernier style, just on large nut in the centre),but the gear on the end of the nearside camshaft was.(3 Hex bolts with vernier style pulley)..

From the previous posts i have read,is this different?? Is the vernier usually on the the pump gear ?? That was the way i read it??

stlg1800? If it was solenoid, then yes, the pump was the problem. Start/stop of injection is adjusted electrically. Did you get the broken pump back? You should have, they can be rebuilt by a specialist, if the garage kept it they made additional profit of a few hundred Euros, pardon, Pounds, but they're worth the same nowadays anyway :P.

Anyway, on 4-cyl (my Octavia) the 3 bolts are on the pump gear, on 6-cyl they probably are on a different gear since there are 2 belts. Didn't look close enough, since last time I did the adjustment, I only took TB cover off, found the first adjustable 3-bolt gear  and adjusted. More seriously, I had a Skoda service note with a picture pointing exactly to the gear in question :).

The adjustment was so sensitive that I had to try 3 times to get the setting I wanted (BTDC top of the spec). The payoff was that the hard cold starts were completely cured, it always starts with under 1sec cranking now, even in winter.

Earlier, on a damp day It'd take 3s cranking and a white smoke cloud to wake up the beast :P

More than £1100 ? - commiserations dude, that would just about finish me off at the moment.

I must admit, when I bought my 12-month-old 1.9 130 back in early 2006, I was sorely tempted to spend a further £4k on a delivery mileage pre-registered 2.5 V6 and have often wondered if I made the right choice. The more threads I read on this forum, including this one and The Kick Inside, the more I'm glad I got the car I did.

Glad it's all sorted, I wonder how much the diesel specialist that the pump was sent to would have charged to fix it from the start.

I'm sure whatever you paid is less than the depreciation on a new one anyway, so you are still winning. It's scare stories like this that make me consider an extended warranty. Would this sort of thing have been covered anyway

All in it was £1500.

My original pump was returned to me.I have it in the boot of the car as a keepsake!!!

All the parts used were original VAG,i insisted on that,so maybe that pushed up the price a little/lot ??

Looking through the bill,it seems the garage have charged me £400 labour, the rest is parts and VAT..

Dont think thats bad TBH.....

Thoughts????
