Blackberry Storm....?

Featured Replies

Ok, i've read pages and pages of reviews on the web regarding the Blackberry storm. I'm really tempted but some are saying it's awful and others say it's amazing (go figure?) does anyone else have any opinion on these?

It was either this or an iPhone but i want it more for my work e-mails and the blackberry looks better for that.

Any help!!! If i spend another 3 hours reading/watching more reviews i may die!

If you can wait until after Christmas I think an N97 and a set of firmware updates to the current considerations would make it a more interesting choice.

I've got a Storm and its pretty good as it goes.

The click through screen takes some getting used to and you tend to develop a habit of pushing other touch only screens (ipod touch) like a mentalist.

It does slow down a little a times which is highly infuriating but I hear a few updates are on the way to address some of these bugs.

Battery life is good. You get a small holster/pouch which incorporates small magnets which immediately shut off the screen when you put the storm in it.

The email facility is excellent as emails are pushed straight to the handset. I placed an order on Amazon last night and 10 seconds later the Storm bonged with the confirmation email.

The UI isn't as fluid as the iphone but I would think this will improve with a few more updates.

The camera isn't too bad at 3.2MP

The voice command feature actually works, you can tell it to dial numbers, check the phone's status and call address book numbers and it works at least 9 times out of 10.

Do I like it? Yes

Would I recommend it? All depends on what said person wants from a handset :o

I think i've decided on the HTC Touch HD after looking at this and a few similar models.

I had a HTC before and it was the worst phone i've ever had so i'm not having another one of those (6 phones later!!) But i'll agree the new ones do look good lol

I'm so glad i've found someone with a Storm! I'm realy picky when it comes to phones and just wanted to know if it does everything i want it to, Pop3 E-mails, some web browsing along with other bits and bobs.

It'll be locked up with horrific vodafone firmware though.

Bengie if you could tell me how you have get on with it I'd really appreciate it.

I'd be aware that on the vodafone e-forum they're reporting real difficulties with the stock level of the storms. People are experiencing delays getting their handsets due to unexpected demand.

Also, i know it sounds stupid, so don't take offence. Have you tried going to a store and asking to have a go with the phone? Even 5 mins will give you a good impression of whether you will like it or not.

Thats good to know cheers, i had a play with one but there was a queue of about 3 people looming over me waiting so i only got about 2 mins on it and couldn't get a feel for it. It seemed ok from what i could gather but the reviews are so up and down i really don't know.

I've been with Orange for the last 5 years and never had a problem with them but we moved office recently and i have NO signal in there at all so it's got to either be O2 or Vodafone.

O2 if it's the iPhone or Vodafone for the Blackberry Storm.

I would recommend Vodafone, been with all providers apart from Virgin and 3 and Voda are the best i have been with yet, unfortunately they seem to enjoy putting their own firmware on phones which tends to blunt them a bit. Although for the inclined this can be sorted.

mine doesn't seem to have blackberry maps on it, either that or i can't find it.

On mine its tucked away in the 'applications' folder but it might have come down with the latest firmware update.

There have been some reports of some coming out of the factory with BB maps and some not

My Mrs had a Blackbury Storm for 1 day before returning it to the shop. Itwas completly shyte IMO. It was push screen (Push till it clicks, like a PC mouse button) , not touch screen! It was hard to use and very, very slow!

I have an IPhone and cannot praise it enough :) The internet browsing is brilliant. My only 2 problems is Safari (Internet browser) sometime crashes, but takes 10secs to restart and the contacts list takes 10secs to start working when loaded. May just be my phone, but it doesn't bother me much :)

I have to say i like the idea of the push screen much more then just tapping on glass.

The one i tried worked well but i only had a play for 2 mins so things like this are helpful.

Cheers

The original software version was a bit of a dog TBH, very much like a prison warden - always locking up.

There have been 2 major updates, the second of which i've just this minute installed and its considerably faster and a little smoother now. Another few updates and they will have ironed out most of the bugs.

As for the click through screen - it's very Marmite.

er, it is a touch screen you dimbus. thats why you touch and things highlight but it takes a click of the screen to actually activate things, they meant it to be this way ;)

i'm getting used to it but still not 100% on it yet.

We are selling loads of them. Good product although the Blackberry way can take a bit of adjustment. I have had one for about 6 years so I maybe slightly biased...

getting on with it more and more each day but tonight the voice dialling has gone tits up and just hangs when trying to initialise :(

I have had mine for nealy 2 weeks now and my god its got to be the best phone i have had the touch screen was really easy to get used to i have all so updated the softwear/firmwear and works so much faster and battey life last so much longer all in all could not recommend this phone enough..

As for more updates just keep checking blackberry desktop more more updates

Phone gets 10/10 for me

just get the phone as you get 14 days cool off anyway

what version you on? i think i'm on 4.7.

I'm on 4.7.0.78 which is the very latest AFAIK. The voice dialling likes to hang every now and again but it does actually work. It would seem RIM are listening to feedback from VF and its getting better with each FW update.

It does however annoy me when a product is rushed to market half cocked and the manufacturer relies on the paying punters to act as beta testers.
