Well as it seems it's decided on the 81, now I just need to find the best price match on it.

Thanks Terry, you been selling many of them?

Yep! The whole PZ series is spot on. We can't get enough stock now!

Hi Carl nice to see you back.:)

Off topic: Im not just yet. Bloody RAF as usual cant organise the proverbial in a brewery. Perk of job to have Net Access ;)

On Topic: Stu please dont buy a Plasma. Get LCD Same if not better quality with less power consumption. You'll regret it if you buy a plasma when you start getting that leccy bill :P

Cheapest Plasma TVs - 50" and above to run are Panasonic | Sony | Pioneer or Hitachi?

Plasma TVs - 46" electricity usage and efficiency ratings

Balls to the consumption, it's picture quality that matters most. Offset the hungry plasma by having a few extra energy saving lamps and set the heating to go off half hour earlier etc etc.

Panasonic TH-46PZ81B = In use: 480W, roughly £150 and about 450kg CO2 per annum  more or less 3 weeks motoring in my car.

Where do I sign for that Prius? :P

Sorry, I have to disagree. I get to play with a lot of setups in my job and the one thing that shines through for me is that Plasma beats LCD still in all the important areas.

Generally speaking you'll get deeper blacks, stronger contrast and a more natural colour range from a good plasma compared to a good lcd.

Can't go wrong with either Panasonic or (even better but more costly) the Pioneer plasmas. Good with SD as well as HD imo.

FYI - we didnt notice a change on the leccy bill when we upgraded the one in the front room to the panasonic PZ 50" plasma. One upgrade ive really not been able to find a down side to; best thing I did in fact.

Bluray player wise - I retired our Playstation 3 from blu ray playing duties a couple of months back - replaced it with a Panasonic BD35 player - another good upgrade - picture very slightly better (a slightly warmer looking picture and more solid looking image when things start moving fast on screen) and best improvement of all; massively reduced noise levels by loosing the PS3's fan - a real hindrance in the quieter parts of films. Saying that, others say their PS3's are almost as quiet as a stand alone player.

Hope some of that helps mate,

Lee

Good point about the BD player Lee.

I think most people get a PS3 and never consider a standalone player that might offer better picture quality. I would guess most bods think the PS3 is the 'best of the best' when it comes to BD playback.

Plus, if its a Panny you get the advantage of Viera Link

have you tried the samsung series 6 (rose black) had mine about 4 months excellent picture and sound quality cost £900 for the 42 inch from currys also the suround sound unit that pairs with it (same colour) sounds fantastic and upscales to 1800p for all dvd's £350 also i bought a monster adapter £100 an hdmi cable £70 and a scart £55 the whole system is really good and cost £1475 so a bit over your budget but worth every penny.

Answer a question for me ( and i aint trying to cause a bunfight etc) If plasma is so good why is it being discontinued by most manufacturers in favour of LCD and OLED (which is the new must have for around £5k :P)

Dont get me wrong i had a 50" plasma tv and my 37 " LCD beats it hands down for quality. As far as im aware (i may have this wrong) but every magazine ive read and every review ive seen on tv (gadget show etc) LCD produces better pictures than plasma due to its make up. Blacks are deeper colours more vibrant etc

Best bet Stu is go and look at the TV's you are thinking of and ask them to connect a bluray source and see which you think is best in terms of Pic value for money etc

upscales to 1800p

You sure about that :P

hdmi cable £70

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

They saw you coming!

an hdmi cable £70

You have been done over mate .... in a biiiiiiig way, HDMI is a digital signal, all ones and zero's, fancy HDMI cables don't make a blind bit of difference.

My brother had a posh cable and I swapped it out for the free cheapo hdmi cable that came with his V+ box. He never noticed an iota of difference on Blu Ray or any other HD source.

**grabs bun and chucks across the forum**

Comparing a 37" LCD against a 50" plasma is never going to be fair. The best thing to do is compare the latest generation LCD against the latest generation plasma with both screens being the same size.

Plasma TVs will always be better at producing deep blacks, the LCD screen has to block out the enormous rear light source to produce dark colours, this doesnt always work as the light bleeds around the picture element (pixel) and produces that washed out grey. Another challenge for LCD is deep blacks and bright colour in the same shot. It has to compromise.

Plasma screens are more expensive to produce, thats the main reason they are being dropped.

I recently went from a 46" LCD to a 46" Plasma and the Plasma TV is vastly superior in every way (IMO of course)

OLED screens that are a decent size and a realistic price are still 3-5 years away.

Swapped it out or nicked it?

:D Swapped it when he was on the throne and then phoned him and told him about it about a month later ;)

I was waiting for the cable price too be mentioned, I knew I wouldn't be let down:rofl::rofl::rofl:

sorry 1080p :P and the£70 hdmi cable made a noticeable difference over the free one that i got with the surround unit.mostly when upscaling to 1080p the colours were a lot crisper blacks seemed deeper and you notice slightly more definition in the background.

Wheres that can of worms picture too ???

Want to buy some snake oil?

I've just replaced a 40" Full HD LCD with a 32" HD Ready LG Plasma for just watching telly on.

My eyes are telling me plasma is much better, cant wait for the weekend footy:D

Want to buy some snake oil?

And a packet of Skyhooks to hang the snake oil from :)

When we were looking at TV's about 12 months ago just about everything we read said the only advantage plasma had over LCD was the deeper blacks everything else is inferior, so we got LCD. You lot cannot come along and p*ss on my chips with this plasma stuff

I dont think my PS3 is the best of the best, i think its extremely good at what it does for the price. Lets face it, after a couple of beers or several glasses of wine your not going to notice the difference :P My PS3 is also pretty quiet, you can hear it whizz up when its first switched on but if i am watching a film i crank up the B&W's so any small noise it does make is drowned out. :D

So i'm the butt of the jokes at the moment but have you actualy tried an expensive cable or ar you to cheap.Plus ever thought that with the right setup you would notice a difference
